Detecting Domain Name System Tunneling and Exfiltration from Domain Name System Traffic
2020In this study, we present a framework to detect a Domain Name System (DNS) tunnel and DNS exfiltration network traffic by using both unsupervised and supervised learning algorithms. In general, considerable time is required to learn the structure of the data before clustering when using an unsupervised learning algorithm.

What's in a name [Internet Domain Name System]
IEE Review, 2003Paul Mockapetris is the inventor of the Internet's Domain Name System. This article discusses why domain names are booming on the Net. As originally envisaged, the DNS was restricted to matching domain names and IP addresses, but Mockapetris decided to "overstep" his mandate and design a system that could be extended to include additional data types ...

Domain Name System Without Root Servers
2018We present a variation to the infrastructure of the Domain Name System (DNS) that works without DNS root servers. This allows to switch from a centralized trust model (root) to a decentralized trust model (top-level domains). By dropping DNS root in our approach, users have one entity less that they must trust.
