Categorising emissions in non-domestic buildings
2023This report explores the pros and cons of different methods to apportion measured direct emissions from heat use categories in non-domestic buildings. Through analysis and stakeholder engagement, it also assesses different practical and feasible ways to regulate direct emissions at a building level.

Water Efficiency Regulations in Domestic Buildings
2020Depending on the culture of water use and the specific territorial resources available, some countries have introduced laws and regulations to restrict water use through the labeling of appliances according to water use. Major global regulations are the WaterSense Program in the United States (US), the Australian Water Efficiency Labeling Scheme (WELS),

Structural Survey of Domestic Building
1985This chapter is devoted to a description of the work involved and the details recorded in carrying out a structural survey of a dwelling house, accompanied by supporting explanatory notes for clarification and amplification. The procedure and sequence of operations follows the approach described in chapter 2.

THE NEST‐BUILDING BEHAVIOUR OF DOMESTICATED CANARIES
Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London, 1958SUMMARY The nest‐building behaviour of domesticated canaries was studied. The principal activities, or groups of activities, studied were inspecting, gathering, carrying and sitting (building). The latter includes a number of stereotyped motor patterns functioning in shaping the cup. The nest‐site is selected by the female as or before building begins.

DAYLIGHTING TECHNOLOGIES IN NON-DOMESTIC BUILDINGS
International Journal of Solar Energy, 1994Abstract Natural daylight is an inexpensive and very efficient light source provided that the amount of daylight entering a building is controlled according to demand. In commercial buildings electricity for lighting can be cut by 50-75% using daylighting design techniques in combination with efficient artificial lighting.

An Introduction to the National Non-Domestic Building Stock Database
Environment and Planning B: Planning and Design, 2000The origins, purpose, and scope of the Non-Domestic Building Stock (NDBS) database of England and Wales are described. Nondomestic buildings are defined and sources of the data used in the database are identified. The structure of the database, and the role of the classification of nondomestic buildings, are described and discussed.

VILLASMART: Wireless sensors for system identification in domestic buildings
IEEE PES ISGT Europe 2013, 2013In this paper, we describe the design decisions, the implementation caveats, and the challenges faced while deploying a special-purpose wireless sensor network (WSN) at a domestic building that is part of a smart grid test environment. The sensor network is designed to collect high-quality data of the building's in- and outdoor climate, heating system,

The evolution of buildings and implications for the design of ubiquitous domestic environments
Proceedings of the SIGCHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2003This paper considers how we may realize future ubiquitous domestic environments. Building upon previous work on how buildings evolve by Stewart Brand, we suggest the need to broaden existing considerations of interactive design for domestic environments. We identify a number of classes of research activity and the issues associated with these.

Domestication—Including Animals in Building Virtue
2019Abstract In this chapter, an alternative understanding of justice is provided, one that bears on indigenous views as connected closely with restoration of relationships. The case is also made for the virtues of compassion, wisdom, and justice to be essential in consideration of how individuals are related to each other in a multispecies ...
