On Independence Domination [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Let G be a graph. The independence-domination number is the maximum over all independent sets I in G of the minimal number of vertices needed to dominate I. In this paper we investigate the computational complexity of independence domination for graphs in several graph classes related to cographs. We present an exact exponential algorithm.

Ladybird communities in rural woodlands: Does an invader dominate?

open access: yesFrontiers in Conservation Science, 2022
The invasive alien species Harmonia axyridis (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) was first observed in the UK in 2004. Previous studies have demonstrated the adverse effects on other species of H. axyridis during its early stages of establishment.

Non-autotrophic methanogens dominate in anaerobic digesters

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Anaerobic digesters are man-made habitats for fermentative and methanogenic microbes, and are characterized by extremely high concentrations of organics. However, little is known about how microbes adapt to such habitats.

Neutrophils dominate the immune cell composition in non-small cell lung cancer

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
The response rate to immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy for non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is just 20%. To improve this figure, several early phase clinical trials combining novel immunotherapeutics with immune checkpoint blockade have been ...

Multi-route respiratory infection: When a transmission route may dominate

open access: yesmedRxiv, 2020
The exact transmission route of many respiratory infectious diseases remains a subject for debate to date. The relative contribution ratio of each transmission route is largely undetermined, which is affected by environmental conditions, human behavior ...

Nonlocal Effects Dominate the Global Mean Surface Temperature Response to the Biogeophysical Effects of Deforestation

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2019
Deforestation influences surface temperature locally (“local effects”), but also at neighboring or remote regions (“nonlocal effects”). Observations indicate that local effects induce a warming in most locations, while many climate models show a global ...
