Filariasis in the Dominican Republic
The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1981Abstract Little has been published about filariasis in the Dominican Republic, but a review of local studies shows that Wuchereria bancrofti is endemic in a number of southern cities including San Pedro de Macoris, Santo Domingo, San Cristobal and Barahona. Masonella ozzardi also is probably endemic.

The other third of the island is occupied by the Republic of Haiti. The entire island is 19,325 square miles and has a population of two million.
