A Novel Method for Rearing Orphaned Donkey Foals with Behaviour in Mind

The IAABC Foundation Journal, 2022
The suckling behavior of donkey foals has rarely been explored, with most orphans being reared on protocols based on the assumption that their behavior and physiology do not differ from horses. An orphaned donkey foal at The Donkey Sanctuary was reared on an artificial suckling system, enabling the analysis of suckling behavior in an orphaned donkey ...

betweenmicrocotyledonary density and parity. Means s.e. for microcotyledonary density were: 3.06 1.04 in pregnant uterine horn, 2.35 0.69 non-pregnant uterine horn and 2.64 1.01 to uterine body. In conclusion, our results clearly demonstrated the impact of mare parity on placental and newborn characteristics. Regardless of the similar microcotyledonary

Digital Agenesia in Martina Franca Donkey Foal: A Case Report

Journal of Equine Veterinary Science, 2012
A 4-day-old male Martina Franca donkey foal was evaluated for a forelimb alteration. Clinical examination and radiographs revealed the agenesia of the distal digit. Biochemical parameters were normal, and ultrasonographic evaluation did not identify any relievable organ alteration. Karyotype study revealed an abnormality on chromosome 1.

IGF-I, NEFA and cortisol plasma concentrations in newborn donkey foals

2013
Many hormonal and metabolic factors are involved in the neonatal adaptation and have been studied in several species, but knowledge are lacking for the donkey. IGF-I, NEFA and C are involved in the perinatal development in several species, but their role in the neonatal adaptation in donkey foals is unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate IGF-
