A Data-First Approach to Learning Real-World Statistical Modeling

open access: yesCanadian Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, 2022
This paper presents a novel design for an upper-level undergraduate statistics course structured around data rather than methods. The course is designed around curated datasets to reflect real-world data science practice and engages ...

Are sensory processing difficulties in infancy predictive of child mental health at 5‐years? Findings from the Etude Longitudinale Francaise depuis l'Enfance French national birth cohort

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
Abstract Background People with neurodevelopmental and mental health conditions have been demonstrated to have elevated rates of sensory processing (SP) difficulties in research and practice but the temporal order of this relationship is unclear. Methods This study sought to investigate whether SP difficulties in infancy predicted mental health at 5 ...

An Explanation of Path Analysis and Recommendations for Best Practice

open access: yesContemporary Accounting Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Path analysis has become increasingly popular, but many studies do not show a deep understanding of how path analysis works or the assumptions on which it relies. In this paper, we explain that path analysis is statistically equivalent to either OLS when the researcher assumes uncorrelated errors, or instrumental variable (IV) estimation when ...

A conceptual framework for revealing rare bacterial species in the gut microbiome through guided data transformation: Beyond enterotypes

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract The gut microbiota is increasingly recognized as a rich source of biological data that offers critical information on host health, including information on pathological conditions such as cancer, diabetes and other metabolic disorders. Inferring host health from gut bacterial composition using statistical analytical methods remains a challenge.

Anticipating cosmetic emulsion stability using a novel multi‐analytical approach

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
A novel combination of granulometry, turbidimetry and rheology enables early detection of cosmetic emulsion instability—reducing assessment time from 30 to 8 days. This rapid method distinguishes stable from unstable emulsions under identical conditions, offering a powerful tool for formulation screening and industrial quality control.
