Displacement and Vibration Measurements with Interferometers: Benchmark Configurations, Performance, and R&D Opportunities

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
Self‐mixing interferometry is a powerful technique that brings together the exceptional sensitivity of phase measurements with the unequalled simplicity of the self‐mix configuration based on modulation of the cavity field induced by the return from the target. According to the selected measurand, displacement or vibration, and to the analog of digital

A Method for Evaluating the Electro-Mechanical Characteristics of Piezoelectric Actuators during Motion

open access: yesSensors, 2012
The electro-mechanical characteristics of piezoelectric actuators which have being driven are evaluated in this paper. The force generated by actuators is measured as an inertial force of a corner cub prism which is attached to the actuators. The Doppler

Rotational Doppler shift of the phase-conjugated photon

open access: yes, 2011
The rotational Doppler shift of a photon with orbital angular momentum $\pm \ell \hbar$ is shown to be an even multiple of the angular frequency $\Omega$ of the reference frame rotation when photon is reflected from the phase-conjugating mirror.

Integration of Soft‐Robotics and Deep Learning to Assess the Coordinated Biosonar Emission and Reception Dynamics in Hipposiderid Bats

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Combining a biomimetic soft‐robot with deep‐learning data analytics sheds light on a unique peripheral dynamics seen in the biosonar system of bats: Bats modulate their ultrasonic biosonar signals upon emission as well as reception with variable, yet highly coordinated motion patterns of their noseleaves and pinnae.

Reverse Doppler effect in backward spin waves scattered on acoustic waves

open access: yes, 2009
We report on the observation of reverse Doppler effect in backward spin waves reflected off of surface acoustic waves. The spin waves are excited in a yttrium iron garnet (YIG) film. Simultaneously, acoustic waves are also generated.

A Quadruped Piezoelectric Ultrasonic Actuating Robot with Foot‐Leg‐Trunk‐Integrated Structure

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This study proposes a novel foot‐leg‐trunk‐integrated quadruped piezoelectric ultrasonic actuating robot with small size and lightweight. A hybrid vibration mode combining the first‐order out‐of‐plane bending vibration of the trunk and the first‐order horizontal bending vibration of driving legs is designed to generate elliptical trajectories at foot ...

The design of multiple orthogonal signals based on auto-encoder optimization network

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
As an important part of active sonar, transmitted signals have a great influence on the performance of ocean exploration, however, in the actual environment, due to the existence of the Doppler frequency shift, the traditional transmitted signals may ...

The rotational Doppler effect and the rotational frequency shift

open access: yes, 2004
The rotational frequency shift (RFS) has been investigated. The existence of the RFS, previously proposed [Phys. Rev. Lett., 78, 2539 (1997)], has been explicitly demonstrated experimentally for the first time, for different quantum systems and frequency regimes.
