Tropospheric Wind Profiling with Doppler Lidar

Proceedings of European Meeting on Lasers and Electro-Optics CLEOE-96, 1996
A coherent Doppler LIDAR system for remote sensing of atmospheric winds has been developed by Kayser-Threde GmbH. The system is devoted for meteorological airport surveillance and for atmospheric research studies. A diode- pumped Tm:YAG laser system generates eye-safe laser pulses with 3 mJ output energy, 600 nsec duration (full width half maximum FWHM)

Wind Infrared Doppler Lidar Instrument

Optical Engineering, 2001
The purpose of the project WIND (wind infrared Doppler lidar) is the development of an airborne conical scanning CO2 Doppler lidar in French-German cooperation by CNRS/CNES and DLR. The instrument and its peculiarities are described. Measurements of the Doppler shift from a moving platform with an accuracy of 1 m/s require instantaneous access to the ...

Nd:YAG Doppler Lidar with Optical Amplifier

Advanced Solid State Lasers, 1991
Velocities are measured with a Doppler-LIDAR by measuring the frequency shift of the backscattered radiation. This Doppler-shifted signal is heterodyned with a local oscillator radiation which has the same frequency as the transmitted signal. The laser of this Doppler-LIDAR technique combines three functions of a LIDAR.

Autodyne Coherent Doppler Lidars

Coherent Laser Radar: Technology and Applications, 1991
Autodyne coherent lidars, i.e., the lidars with intracavity reception of the echo-signals proved to be of efficient for studying the atmosphere1-3. They possess high sensitivity and high noise immunity. They make it possible to determine few parameters in question simultaneously, namely: the absorption along the path, the distance to the retroreflector

Doppler Lidar Observations of Hydrometeors

Journal of Applied Meteorology, 1974
Abstract Significant Doppler lidar returns have been observed from snow and rain. This demonstrates the feasibility of measuring velocity and range of hydrometeors with 10.6-μm wavelength CO2 laser lidar.

All-fiber coherent Doppler lidar

SPIE Proceedings, 2016
The paper sums up the principles of construction of all-fiber Doppler coherent wind lidars, which can be divided into two classes by the method of signal conversion: homodyne and heterodyne. Lidars of the first class, usually, with continuous-wave probing radiation employ the direct conversion of the signal, when the carrier frequency coincides with ...

Doppler LIDAR using Nd:YAG technology

Topical Meeting on Optical Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere, 1985
We have built an extremely stable diode-pumped reference oscillator, a high power single mode master oscillator, and a high gain amplifier. Progress in system integration will be described.

Calibration of a cw infrared Doppler lidar

Applied Optics, 1980
A moving scattering target used as a transfer standard allows absolute calibration of the response of a cw Doppler lidar to an atmospheric target. The lidar in this study operated at a 10.6-microm wavelength. Consideration of the distribution of radiant energy density near the focus of the lidar transceiver permits measurement of a backscatter ...

Pulsed Doppler lidar at QinetiQ

SPIE Proceedings, 2004
Recent developments in pulsed Doppler lidar technology for range-resolved aerosol and hard-target imaging applications are presented. Systems based upon CO2 and fiber-optic technologies at wavelengths of 10.6 μm and 1.5 μm respectively are described.
