Evaluating Water Levels From the Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) Mission in a Hyper‐Tidal Coastal and Estuarine Environment

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 12, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract The launch of the Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) satellite in December 2022 started a new era of swath altimetry, introducing an unprecedented global data set of high‐resolution two‐dimensional water level imagery. During its initial calibration and validation phase (cal/val), SWOT conducted daily observations for 3 months providing

An airport wind shear detection and warning system using Doppler radar: A feasibility study [PDF]

open access: yes
A feasibility study was conducted to determine whether ground based Doppler radar could measure the wind along the path of an approaching aircraft with sufficient accuracy to predict aircraft performance.

Comparisons Between the Global Ionosphere Thermosphere Model and HIWIND Measurements

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 130, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract Neutral winds in the daytime middle thermosphere are difficult to measure. The High altitude Interferometer WIND Observation instrument made measurements of these winds from a balloon in the summers of 2011 and 2018 during both daytime and nighttime at high latitudes.

Confronting Large‐Eddy Simulations With Stereo Camera Data by Means of Reconstructed Hemispheric Cloud Size Distributions

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 17, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract High‐resolution hemispheric camera images at a meteorological site in western Germany are used to analyze the multi‐dimensional spatial characteristics of continental cumulus cloud fields, and to evaluate Large‐Eddy Simulations on this aspect. Traditional non‐hemispheric cloud‐detecting instruments provide additional reference data.

A range-rate extraction unit for determining Doppler effect [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Active ranging technique devised for VHF or S-band radar systems divides target Doppler frequency by counter-generated number that is proportional to transmitting frequency, thus producing target velocity data in terms of speed and distance relative to ...
