The Doppler shift and the photon

Physics Education, 2001
The formula for the relativistic Doppler shift for light can be seen as just a special case of the apparent change in momentum of an object emitted from a receding source.

Doppler Shift in a Plasma*

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1967
It is first shown that the ideal electron plasma (presence of protons neglected) is unique among all dispersive media in that it does not distinguish any inertial frame of reference in terms of utility. The theory of the Doppler shift in an ideal plasma is then developed by simultaneous employment of two inertial frames of reference.

Doppler shift of electron waves

Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1978
In an electron mirror interference microscope (1) two coherent partial waves are reflected by an electrostatic mirror (Fig.1). The mirror surface (“object”) is slowly tilted using a cylindrical piezo-ceramic spacer (€ = Δl/Δ U = 6 Å/V) one cm in length and one cm in diameter which produces a tilt angle of Δl/s = ɛ-Δu/s where s is the length of the ...

[The application of Doppler broadening and Doppler shift to spectral analysis].

Guang pu xue yu guang pu fen xi = Guang pu, 2004
The distinction between Doppler broadening and Doppler shift has analyzed, Doppler broadening locally results from the distribution of velocities of the emitting particles, the line width gives the information on temperature of emitting particles. Doppler shift results when the emitting particles have a bulk non random flow velocity in a particular ...

Doppler Interpretation of Quasar Red Shifts

Science, 1966
The hypothesis that the quasistellar sources (quasars) are local objects moving with velocities close to the speed of light is examined. Provided there is no observational cutoff on apparent bolometric magnitude for the quasars, the transverse Doppler effect leads to the expectation of fewer blue shifts than red shifts for an isotropic ...

Einstein's Principle of Relativity and Doppler Shift

Physics Essays, 2007
This paper explores the possibility of detecting a difference in the Doppler Shift phenomenon when generated in different inertial frames, as a means of testing Einstein’s Principle of Relativity. Specifically, the Doppler shifts generated alternatively by movement of the observer and movement of the light source are examined and show an observable ...

SR-Doppler Shift

2017
The Doppler light (wavelength or frequency) shift depends on relative velocity alone. Demanding Lorentz invariance of the light wave phase, we show that the Doppler shift is reciprocal: any two observer-sources will find a reciprocal Doppler light shift which allows each of the two to identify the relative velocity vector. Time dilation, i.e.

Doppler Shift of Surface Backscatter

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1972
Spectral analyses of underwater backscattered sound are carried out. Measurements are presented showing different Doppler shifts for volume and surface reverberation. Reversal of Doppler polarity is shown for 180° rotation of the underwater sound transducer.

Doppler shift for a radar echo

American Journal of Physics, 1979
The Doppler shift formula for a radar echo is derived without the use of transformation equations by considering the superposition of the incident and reflected waves. The results are then used as a basis for a discussion of the concepts of proper length and time as regards the transformation properties of wavelength and period in special relativity.

A new twist on the Doppler shift

Physics Today, 2014
Light with orbital angular momentum will undergo a frequency shift when it bounces off a rotating object.
