Velocity observations above a rippled bed using laser Doppler velocimetry

Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 1992
Velocity observations are reported in a plane across a regular nonmigrating ripple in 2.5 m of water depth. The forcing was weak, primarily wave‐induced near‐bed orbital motion. The data were acquired using a two‐axis submerged laser Doppler velocimeter. Synchronous records of pressure below the surface were also obtained.

Velocity estimations by combining time-differenced GPS and Doppler observations

Measurement Science and Technology, 2019
Time-differenced Carrier Phase Velocity Estimations (TDCPVE) and Doppler Velocity Estimations (DVE) are two commonly used methods for precise velocity estimation with a stand-alone GPS receiver. As the TDCPVE requires a minimum of four satellites for parameter estimation, the time-differenced velocity estimation (TDVE) model was developed by combining ...

Direct observation of the influence of Doppler-induced resonances on atomic velocities

Physical Review Letters, 1990
We report the first direct observation of the effect of Doppleron resonances on the velocity distribution of atoms in an intense optical standing wave. These observations are in reasonable agreement with the simulations based on a continued-fraction solution for the force.

Doppler Velocity Characteristics During Tropical Cyclones Observed Using ScanSAR Raw Data

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2016
Doppler velocity can be derived by calculating Doppler shift anomalies between predicted and estimated Doppler centroids. The predicted Doppler centroid is calculated based on a geometric model of satellite assuming that the target is not moving. The estimated Doppler centroid can be directly extracted from the raw SAR signal data by applying the ...

Shipboard acoustic Doppler profiler velocity observations near Point Conception: Spring 1983

Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 1987
During April 1983, shipboard Doppler acoustic log current profiles were collected in an effort to characterize the flow field near points Conception and Arguello, California. Subsurface velocity maps derived from these profiles have been used to describe spatial flow structures both on and off the shelf and to investigate flow variability as a function

Robust Resolution of Velocity Ambiguity for Multifrequency Pulse-to-Pulse Coherent Doppler Sonars

IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, 2019
Pulse-to-pulse coherent Doppler sonars are widely used to explore boundary layer characteristics of oceans. Multifrequency pulse-to-pulse coherent Doppler sonars have been proposed in the literature to tackle the velocity ambiguity problem faced by ...

Analysis of Doppler spectrum of a spaceborne Doppler scatterometer using an echoed signal simulation model

International Journal of Remote Sensing, 2023
The Doppler spectrum of a microwave scatterometer signal is determined by the relative motion between the scatterometer and the ocean surface. It is also determined by the modulation from the ocean surface backscattering coefficient.

Combining GPS carrier phase and Doppler observations for precise velocity determination

Science China Physics, Mechanics and Astronomy, 2011
The truncation error and propagation error are analyzed for velocity determination through differential GPS carrier phase observations, and an approach for the choice of the best number of points for the central difference method is developed. In order to overcome the disadvantages of existing GPS velocity determination methods, a new velocity ...

Observations of Thunderstorm Reflectivities and Doppler Velocities Measured at VHF and UHF

Journal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Technology, 1987
Abstract We compare observations of thunderstorms made with two radars operating at different wavelengths of 70 cm and 5.67 m. The first set of observations was made with the UHF radar at the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico, and the second was made with the Max-Planck-Institut fur Aeronomie VHF radar in the Harz Mountains in West Germany.
