Expected Characteristics of Global Wind Profile Measurements with a Scanning, Hybrid, Doppler Lidar System [PDF]
Over 20 years of investigation by NASA and NOAA scientists and Doppler lidar technologists into a global wind profiling mission from earth orbit have led to the current favored concept of an instrument with both coherent- and direct-detection pulsed ...

Abstract Fundamental questions remain about where and when convection will occur within African easterly waves. In this study, we aim to better understand the dynamical processes that govern moist convective organization at the meso‐alpha scale in tropical easterly waves using NASA airborne field campaigns and satellite observations.

Listening to the Atmosphere: Using Infrasound Observations to Infer Atmospheric Conditions
Abstract The stratosphere and mesosphere are important regions for the prediction of weather at the Earth's surface for medium‐ and long‐range forecasts. The availability of observations in these layers is lower than that of the troposphere, especially for the dynamics. While seeking new observational sources is important, there are existing infrasound

Latent Heat Flux Profiles from Collocated Airborne Water Vapor and Wind Lidars during IHOP_2002 [PDF]
Latent heat flux profiles in the convective boundary layer (CBL) are obtained for the first time with the combination of the DLR water vapor differential absorption lidar (DIAL) and the NOAA high resolution Doppler wind lidar (HRDL).

Doppler Winds Lidar Technology Development and Demonstration [PDF]
High resolution (both spatial and temporal) and accurate tropospheric wind profiling from spaceborne platforms has been one of the most wanted capability by both DOD and civilian user communities to support weather forecasting, national defense and homeland security applications.

The study focusses on the morphological evolution of worldwide restored intertidal flats. These intertidal flats initially experience high sedimentation rates after the opening of the connection with open waters. The anthropogenic structures cause high morphological instability and are eroded, leading to a self‐cannibalisation of the system.

The ability to perform a number of ecosystem functions is degraded by the inappropriate damming of agricultural floodplains (by levee construction) or by the continuous urban expansion, where flood protection is justified but at the cost of affecting the environmental stability of the wider landscape.

On Wind Directions Estimated by Nacelle Lidar Under Different Reconstruction Methods
ABSTRACT The wind direction is closely linked to the power performance and structural loads of wind turbines. Conventional nacelle‐mounted vanes or sonic anemometers face errors associated with airflow distortions caused by turbine blades. Nacelle‐mounted lidar systems offer line‐of‐sight speed measurements from multiple positions ahead of the rotor ...
