A new way to understand migration routes of oceanic squid (Ommastrephidae) from satellite data

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, Volume 10, Issue 2, Page 248-263, April 2024.
Estimating the migratory patterns of Ommastrephidae based on remote sensing is attractive and challenging; recorded jiggers do not chase a certain group of individuals (like tagging‐based tracking) but catch individuals in different ages and migration stages.

β‐Chitin and chitosan from waste shells of edible mollusks as a functional ingredient

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 5, Issue 1, Page 46-72, January 2024.
This review explores the edible mollusk shell waste sources and its suitable extraction techniques, characterizations, and functional properties of β‐chitin and chitosan. Further, the genetic pathway of synthesizing mollusk chitin and chitosan was discussed.

Comparative efficacy of different tenderizing agents and time on Physicochemical textural and organoleptic properties of squid (Todarodes pacificus) muscle

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 12, Issue 1, Page 204-215, January 2024.
The results of the analyses showed that different treatments and their durations affected the dry matter, ash content, lipid, and crude protein of the squid. Different marinade treatments did not affect the tissue parameters of the squid but hardness, springiness, cohesiveness, and gumminess properties statistically differed among marination times. The

Squid by-product gelatines: Effect on oxidative stress biomarkers in healthy rats

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences, 2016
Gelatines from three different jumbo squid (Dosidicus gigas) by-products (fins, arms, and skin) were compared based on their chemical and biochemical properties (amino acid composition, molecular weight distribution, and in vitro digestibility ...

Performance Parameters of Paralarvae and Postparalarvae Rearing of Patagonian Red Octopus, Enteroctopus megalocyathus, under Experimental Conditions

open access: yesAquaculture Research, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Patagonian red octopus, Enteroctopus megalocyathus, an interesting species for Chilean aquaculture diversification, requires the improving of their experimental technology to obtain early juveniles. The first objective of the study was to enhance aspects of feeding and temperature management in broodstock, egg incubation, paralarvae rearing, and early ...

The Impact of Ekman Pumping and Transport on Dosidicus gigas (Jumbo Flying Squid) Fishing Ground by Chinese Jiggers off the Coast of Peru

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Upwelling is often associated with high productivity, biodiversity, and fishery resource abundance. This study employed a generalized additive model (GAM) to analyze the effects of Ekman pumping and transport on the abundance and distribution of jumbo ...

[Biochemistry and functional characterization of squid mantle meat (Dosidicus gigas)].

open access: yesArchivos latinoamericanos de nutricion, 2001
A study for the characterization of frozen giant squid mantle (meat) protein stored at -25 degrees C for 8 month was started. In the present research, the following functional properties were investigate: emulsifying, water holding and gel forming capacities.
