Efficient photon beam dose calculations using DOSXYZnrc with BEAMnrc

open access: yesMedical Physics, 2006
This study examines the efficiencies of doses calculated using DOSXYZnrc for 18 MV (10 X 10 cm2 field size) and 6 MV (10 X 10 cm2 and 20 X 20 cm2 field sizes) photon beams simulated using BEAMnrc. Both phase-space sources and full BEAMnrc simulation sources are used in the DOSXYZnrc calculations.

Poster - Thur Eve - 77: Coordinate transformation from DICOM to DOSXYZnrc

open access: yesMedical Physics, 2012
DICOM format is the de facto standard for communications between therapeutic and diagnostic modalities. A plan generated by a treatment planning system (TPS) is often exported to DICOM format. BEAMnrc/DOSXYZnrc is a widely used Monte Carlo (MC) package for beam and dose simulations in radiotherapy.

An enhanced HOWFARLESS option for DOSXYZnrc simulations of slab geometries

open access: yesMedical Physics, 2008
The Monte Carlo code DOSXYZnrc is a valuable instrument for calculating absorbed dose within a three‐dimensional Cartesian geometry. DOSXYZnrc includes several variance reduction techniques used to increase the efficiency of the Monte Carlo calculation.

A new DOSXYZnrc method for Monte Carlo simulations of 4D dose distributions

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 2021
Abstract The purpose of this study is to present a novel method for generating Monte Carlo 4D dose distributions in a single DOSXYZnrc simulation. During a standard simulation, individual energy deposition events are summed up to generate a 3D dose distribution and their associated temporal information is discarded. This means that in

Increasing the speed of DOSXYZnrc Monte Carlo simulations through the introduction of nonvoxelated geometries

Medical Physics, 2008
This article presents a method for increasing the speed of DOSXYZnrc Monte Carlo simulations through the introduction of nonvoxelated geometries defined in any coordinate system. Nonvoxelated geometries are used to isolate regions of uniform density and composition from the scoring grid.

Issues Related to the Use of DOSXYZnrc to Simulate a Voxel Phantom in Radiation Protection

2011 First International Workshop on Complexity and Data Mining, 2011
Passing from stylized analytical human models to realistic voxel models based on computed tomography scans or MRI scans, and finally to advanced surface-geometry models, very significant advancements were presented during the years in computational phantom field.
