Crustal structure and the seismogenic environment in Yunnan imaged by double-difference tomography

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
The large-scale faulting and earthquake activities that developed extensively in the Yunnan area are associated with the collision of India and Eurasia. The fine crustal structure can provide a better understanding of the crustal deformation, seismogenic

Complex Structure in the Nootka Fault Zone Revealed by Double‐Difference Tomography and a New Earthquake Catalog [PDF]

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2022
We employ an automatic earthquake detection algorithm to seismic waveforms recorded between the years 2000 and 2020 in southwest British Columbia. 32,121 events which possess at least three paired P‐ and S‐wave arrival times are located, compared to 21 ...

Development and Applications of Double-difference Seismic Tomography

open access: yesPure and Applied Geophysics, 2006
Double-difference (DD) tomography is a generalization of DD location; it simultaneously solves for the three-dimensional velocity structure and seismic event locations. DD tomography uses a combination of absolute and more accurate differential arrival times and hierarchically determines the velocity structure from larger scale to smaller scale.

An efficient algorithm for double-difference tomography and location in heterogeneous media, with an application to the Kilauea volcano [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research, 2005
Improving our understanding of crustal processes requires a better knowledge of the geometry and the position of geological bodies. In this study we have designed a method based upon double‐difference relocation and tomography to image, as accurately as possible, a heterogeneous medium containing seismogenic objects.

Imaging the subducting slab and mantle upwelling under the Japan islands revealed by double-difference tomography

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
In this paper, we collected the seismic phase arrival data of 14,033 local natural earthquakes above magnitude 3.0 recorded by 435 seismograph stations in the study area provided by the International Seismological Centre (ISC), covering the period from ...

Double-difference tomography in the Qinling orogenic belt and its adjacent areas

open access: yes地震科学进展
The Qinling orogenic belt and its adjacent areas serve as the convergence zone between the North China craton, the Yangtze craton, and the northeastern edge of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau are characterized by complex tectonic activity. This study utilizes

Back azimuth constrained double-difference seismic location and tomography for downhole microseismic monitoring [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors, 2017
Abstract We have developed a new seismic tomography method, back azimuth constrained double-difference (DD) seismic tomography, which is suitable for downhole microseismic monitoring of hydraulic fracturing. The new method simultaneously locates microseismic events and determines three-dimensional (3D) Vp and Vs models for the fracturing zone using ...

Vertical high-velocity structures and seismic activity in western Shandong Rise, China: Case study inspired by double-difference seismic tomography

open access: yesOpen Geosciences
In this article, we collected the seismic phase arrival data (115°–120°E, 34°–39°N) of 2,833 local natural earthquakes above magnitude 1.0 recorded by 128 seismograph stations provided by the China Earthquake Networks Center covering the period from ...

Preliminary Results of Double Difference Tomography at Sunda-Banda Arc [PDF]

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2021
Abstract The Sunda-Arc transition to the Banda Arc is located on the south of the Flores Island, Indonesia, where the Australian lithosphere is moving to the north direction. On-going subduction process dictates the tectonic setting though some studies also suggest a collision and obduction may occur in the past due to of plate buoyancy.

唐山地区近十年地震的重定位研究

open access: yesDizhen xuebao, 2021
