Soret and Double Diffusive Convection in a Porous Cavity

Journal of Porous Media, 2004
Summary: Natural convection in a rectangular porous medium filled with a binary fluid is studied analytically and numerically. The two vertical walls of the cavity are subject to constant gradients of temperature while the two horizontal ones are adiabatic and impermeable. Solutal gradients are assumed to be induced either by the imposition of constant

Penetrative double-diffusive convection

The Physics of Fluids, 1987
The onset of double-diffusive convection is studied for an infinite fluid layer possessing a density maximum in its interior. Linear stability analyses are performed on a basic state with constant temperature and concentration gradients in which the density-temperature relationship is quadratic.

Transitions in double-diffusive convection

Nature, 1976
The transitions of solutions of differential equations from one stability regime to another are of great current interest, both mathematical and physical, and there are conflicting hypotheses as to how such transitions occur. Here we present the results of an investigation of double-diffusive convection, which is important in oceanography, astrophysics

DRBEM Solution of the Double Diffusive Convective Flow

2016
A numerical investigation of unsteady, two-dimensional double diffusive convection flow through a lid-driven square enclosure is carried on. The left and bottom walls of the enclosure are either uniformly or non-uniformly heated and concentrated, while the right vertical wall is maintained at a constant cold temperature.

Double Diffusive Convection with LTNE

2015
In the standard Bnard problem the instability is driven by a density difference caused by a temperature difference between the upper and lower planes bounding the fluid. If the fluid layer additionally has salt dissolved in it then there are potentially two destabilizing sources for the density difference, the temperature field and the salt field.

Convective and absolute instabilities of double-diffusive convection with shear

Physics of Fluids
In this study, we investigate the spatiotemporal instability of double-diffusive convection with and without a Couette flow, focusing mainly on the characters of transverse rolls. In the absence of shear, double-diffusive convection is always absolutely unstable even in the oscillatory instability regime, which is different from other flows that can ...
