Double Adjunctions and Free Monads [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We characterize double adjunctions in terms of presheaves and universal squares, and then apply these characterizations to free monads and Eilenberg--Moore objects in double categories. We improve upon our earlier result in "Monads in Double Categories",

Cis‐regulatory and long noncoding RNA alterations in breast cancer – current insights, biomarker utility, and the critical need for functional validation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The noncoding region of the genome plays a key role in regulating gene expression, and mutations within these regions are capable of altering it. Researchers have identified multiple functional noncoding mutations associated with increased cancer risk in the genome of breast cancer patients.

Integrated GWAS and Fst analysis identify flowering‐time regulatory genes in maize

open access: yesThe Plant Genome
Flowering time in maize is a complex quantitative trait regulated by multiple genes, and its genetic variation mechanisms remain to be fully elucidated.

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

A Planar UWB Antenna with Switchable Single/Double Band-Rejection Characteristics [PDF]

open access: yesRadioengineering, 2016
In this Paper, a reconfigurable antenna with capability to operate in the ultrawideband (UWB) mode from 2.85 to 14.4 GHz with switchable notch bands of 3.25–4.26 GHz, 5.1–5.9 GHz or 7.1-7.8 GHz, is presented.

Double Bicategories and Double Cospans

open access: yes, 2006
Interest in weak cubical n-categories arises in various contexts, in particular in topological field theories. In this paper, we describe a concept of double bicategory, namely a strict model of the theory of bicategories in Bicat. We show that in a special case one can reduce this to what we call a Verity double bicategory, after Domenic Verity.

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Double edge-diffraction mediated virtual shadow for distance metrology

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2018
We report a form of double edge-diffraction (DED) for the first time, in which successive diffractive effects between two opaque objects leads to a virtual shadow of one object that protrudes from the shadow of the other.
