Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Miguel de Molina dans Ésta es mi vida (1952) de Román Viñoly Barreto : le cinéma, de concert avec la musique, ou les multiples possibles du vrai et du faux

open access: yesItinéraires
This article aims to show how Román Viñoly Barreto's Argentine feature-length fiction film Ésta es mi vida (1952) is an example of a specific, inventive and sophisticated cinematographic staging of the art of music transubstantiated on the big screen. It

Double, Double Toil and Trouble [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Syndromology, 2015
With the complete sequence of the human genome being available, systematic mapping of regions of transcription, transcription factor binding, chromatin structure and histone modification has revealed that 80% of the genome outside of the protein-coding regions performs essential biochemical functions [ENCODE, 2012].

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

Double Trace Interfaces

open access: yes, 2017
We introduce and study renormalization group interfaces between two holographic conformal theories which are related by deformation by a scalar double trace operator.

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Ulysse et son double

open access: yesAnnali Online dell'Università di Ferrara. Sezione Lettere, 2018
Odysseus’s dual personnality, both positive and negative, reflects the dual personnality of the god Hermes, the god in which opposite forces are united. So he faces recurrently «doubles» reproducing the dark face of his contradictory personnality, namely

The Hollywood Dance-In: Abstract and Material Relations of Corporeal Reproduction

open access: yesArts, 2019
This essay asks what the figure of the Hollywood dance-in—a dancer who performed in place of a star prior to filming and who assisted the choreographer in the creation of dance numbers—can reveal about the reproduction of corporeality as an ...
