Maize Peroxidase ZmPrx25 Modulates Apoplastic ROS Homeostasis and Promotes Seed Germination and Growth Under Osmotic and Drought Stresses

open access: yesAntioxidants
Drought is one of the major abiotic stresses threatening maize production globally. Under drought stress, maize plants produce excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to oxidative damage.

Control of fluorescence in quantum emitter and metallic nanoshell hybrids for medical applications

open access: yes, 2017
We study the light emission from quantum emitter and double metallic nanoshell hybrid systems. Quantum emitters act as local sources which transmit their light efficiently due to a double nanoshell near field.

Mechanisms of IgE‐mediated food allergy and the role of allergen‐specific B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Food allergy arises when allergen‐specific B cells preferentially produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against harmless foods. This article explains the mechanisms driving IgE‐mediated reactions, highlights the central role of these B cells, and discusses how natural tolerance (NT) and oral immunotherapy (OIT) can reshape allergic immune responses.

Application of Potassium Improves Yield and Quality Under Drought Stress by Regulating Nutrient Use Efficiency in Wheat

open access: yesPlants
Drought stress is a major abiotic constraint that severely limits growth, yield formation, and grain quality in wheat. Potassium (K) application is known to alleviate drought stress in crops.

Twice-Two: Hegel’s Comic Redoubling of Being and Nothing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Following Freud’s analysis of the fragile line between the uncanny double and its comic redoubling, I identify the doubling of the double found in critical moments of Hegelian dialectic as producing a kind of comic effect.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
