Recovery of southern mountain caribou habitat following wildfire in Ulkatcho territory, British Columbia, Canada

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Caribou forage lichens were present in post‐burn lodgepole pine stands multiple decades before stem‐density was likely open enough to attract wintering caribou. We posit that the prolonged self‐thinning of lodgepole pine after fire may be a greater limiting factor than lichen abundance for habitat recovery in lodgepole pine forests.

Recovery of great blue herons (Ardea herodias) within the Chesapeake Bay

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We surveyed great blue herons throughout the tidal reach of the Chesapeake Bay in 2013 and mapped 423 colonies supporting 15,094 pairs. The population has increased more than four‐fold since the mid‐1970s. Colony size has declined. Invasion of colonies by bald eagles may be driving a change in spatial structure.

Protective Effects of Er:YAG Laser and PRG Pro‐Care Gel on Enamel Demineralization

open access: yesLasers in Surgery and Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Bioactive surface pre‐reacted glass‐ionomer (S‐PRG) technology and high‐power laser irradiation have been investigated as promising preventive approaches. S‐PRG particles exhibit multifunctional bioactive glass properties, with the ability to release and recharge ions.
