The Meccano Club: The Business of Alternative Comedy

open access: yes, 2022
This chapter presents a case study of a typical London alternative cabaret in the 1980s, the Meccano Club, drawing on interviews and business records from the British Stand-Up Comedy Archive at the University of Kent, UK.

The Preparatory (Anti)Bonding Character of Molecular Orbitals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Herein, a concept to qualitatively predict changes in bond dissociation energies upon reduction or oxidation of molecular compounds is introduced. Changing the population of so‐called preparatory molecular orbitals influences how molecular fragments are relaxing after bond cleavage, which is shown for isolated organometallic aluminum compounds as well ...

Deprotonation and Alkylation of Weakly Acidic C(sp3)─H Bonds Through In Situ Generation of a Strong Hydride Base From 1,1,3,3‐Tetramethyldisiloxane and Potassium tert‐Butoxide

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The use of 1,1,3,3‐tetramethyldisiloxane (TMDSO) and potassium tert‐butoxide enables direct alkylation of weakly acidic carbon–hydrogen bonds with alkyl halides. Experimental and computational studies support the formation of a substrate‐associated hydride‐like base, providing a single‐step alternative to the classical deprotonation and electrophile ...

TED1 Promotes the Assembly of SCFD3‐D14‐D53 to Reinforce Strigolactone Signaling in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies TED1 as a positive regulator of strigolactones (SL) signaling in rice. The ted1 mutants display dwarfism and increased tillering with significantly reduced SLs sensitivity. Through its longer C‐terminal region, TED1 interacts with D53 and D14 to promote the assembly of SCFD3‐D14‐D53, thereby facilitating the efficient ...

Self‐Assembled Pt(II) Complexes Boost Up Stem Cell Proliferation and Accelerate Metamorphosis in Living Organisms

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Pt1, an organometallic platinum‐based complex, act as a modulator of redox homeostasis in cnidarians, regulating cellular functions and life‐cycle dynamics. In Nematostella vectensis, it mitigates oxidative stress, strengthens detox systems and accelerates development.

Inverse Design of Pre‐Strain via a Predictive Electromechanical Model for Enhanced Strain Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An analytical electromechanical model rooted in microcrack evolution mechanics is globally calibrated from only eight pre‐strain datasets, enabling prediction of the complete sensing response at untested pre‐strain values within the calibrated design space (R2 > 0.99).

Revealing the Underlying Mechanisms in Performance Enhancement of Shellular Lattice Electrodes During Anion Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis Process

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Micro laser powder bed fusion enables architected nickel shellular lattice gas diffusion layers for anion exchange membrane water electrolysis. Among regular open cell geometries, the Gyroid lattice promotes bubble release, convective reactant replenishment and continuous electron transport, delivering low overpotentials, enhanced charge transfer and ...

Double-crowned valved stents for off-pump mitral valve replacement☆ [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 2005
An animal model has been designed to assess the feasibility of off-pump mitral valve replacement using valved stents.Glutaraldehyde-preserved homograft was sutured inside a prosthetic tube (Dacron). Then, two self-expandable nitinol Z-stents were sutured on the external surface of the prosthesis in such a way to create two self-expanding crowns for ...

Tailoring Structure–Property Relationships in π‐Conjugated Heterocyclic Poly(arylene alkylene) Anion‐Exchange Membranes for High‐Performance Water Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
From passive to active ion transport: π‐conjugated heterocycles reconfigure the hydration environment and microphase morphology of p‐terphenyl‐based anion‐exchange membranes, enabling fast hydroxide transport and high‐performance water electrolysis. ABSTRACT Anion‐exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE) is a promising technology for sustainable ...
