Localizable Fluorescent Metal Ion Indicators With Tunable Colors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A modular platform enables the generation of fluorescent metal ion indicators with tunable emission colors and precise subcellular localization. Conjugation to self‐labeling proteins yields bright, color‐tunable potassium probes that permit wash‐free live‐cell imaging, revealing dynamic potassium efflux in stimulated neurons.

Precision Switching and Coupled Motion in a [3]Rotaxane Molecular Machine

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A [3]rotaxane, composed by two crown ether macrocycles and an axle presenting three recognition sites, is operated through both chemical and electrochemical stimuli. The position of the macrocycles is precisely controlled by sequential stimulation and the processes are fully reversible. The characterization of the system revealed the macrocycles affect

Effects of the 1997-1998 El Niño and 1998-1999 La Niña events on breeding waterbirds and sea lions in the Upper Gulf of California, México [PDF]

open access: yesGeofísica Internacional, 2003
During 1998 and 1999 I monitored waterbirds nesting on Isla San Jorge, at La Purinera and on Isla Montague, in the northern Gulf of California, as well as sea lions on Isla San Jorge. During El Niño the brown boobies on San Jorge ceased breeding and left

Spatially Separated Redox Centers in One‐Dimensional Sp2‐Carbon Covalent Organic Frameworks Enable Synergistic Photocatalytic Palladium Recovery and Bisphenol A Mineralization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A one‐dimensional sp2‐carbon covalent organic framework with spatially segregated redox centers integrates a dual photosensitizing system and a cationic interface for synergistic photocatalysis. The material achieves exceptional palladium recovery (1749 mg g−1) and bisphenol A mineralization (0.1710 min−1) without sacrificial agents, demonstrating ...

Advancing breeding phenology does not affect incubation schedules in chestnut‐crowned babblers: Opposing effects of temperature and wind

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2018
Projecting population responses to climate change requires an understanding of climatic impacts on key components of reproduction. Here, we investigate the associations among breeding phenology, climate and incubation schedules in the chestnut‐crowned ...

Internal loads and contact pressure distributions on the main shaft bearing in a modern gearless wind turbine

open access: yes, 2021
© 2019 Elsevier Ltd The double-row tapered roller bearing (TRB) widely used to support the main shaft in a modern gearless wind turbine is one of the main components and its faults can lead to the malfunctions and downtime of wind turbines. Over the past

From Defense Executor to Engineering Target: Harnessing Lignin for Crop Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lignin serves as both a physical and chemical executor of broad‐spectrum plant immunity. This review systematically summarizes classical and recent advances in lignin‐mediated immunity, outlines the multifaceted regulatory modules controlling lignification under biotic stress, discusses key physiological and biochemical mechanisms behind lignin‐based ...

Nucleophilic Gallyl Anions Enable Ga─Au Bimetallic Ammonia Activation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Unlocking gallyl nucleophiles: Counterion control enables formation of an unsupported gallyl─gold complex. Gold coordination induces a polarity switch at gallium, enabling cooperative activation of NH3 and related N─H/O─H substrates under mild conditions.

Phase‐Resolved Dual Control of Phenol Photodissociation at the Air–Water Interface From Structure‐Resolved Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Faster phenol photolysis at the air–water interface arises from two cooperative factors: a more favorable initial microenvironment for solvent‐side electron stabilization, which lowers CI access, and a more labile hydrogen‐bond network, which more readily reorganizes to stabilize the dark‐state intermediate.

Metal‐Free Active Template: A Straightforward Route to 4‐Aminopyridinium‐Based Rotaxane Molecular Shuttles

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Leigh's metal‐free active template‐based SNAr of an amine on halogenopyridiniums, in the presence of a crown ether, successfully afforded 4‐aminopyridinium‐containing rotaxanes. Further molecular machinery was carried out by deprotonation‐then‐carbamoylation of the conjugated amino moiety.
