Negation and Double-Negation of Chinese Oppositeness
2013Oppositeness refers to the paradigmatic relationship of two words holding the contrast meanings. The fact that linguistic opposite differs from logical contrast has been discussed in theories, but has not been tested in practice. In this paper, we investigate three main subtypes of Chinese oppositeness, via using logical tests of negation and double ...

Double Negation and NPI Licensing
2021In English, double negation licenses weak NPIs while strong NPIs do not. It is also the case in Dhaasanac. This chapter is a preliminary investigation of NPI licensing by double negation in Dhaasanac.

Paraconsistent Double Negation That Can Simulate Classical Negation
2016 IEEE 46th International Symposium on Multiple-Valued Logic (ISMVL), 2016A new classical paraconsistent logic (CP), which is a variant of Nelson's paraconsistent four-valued logic, is introduced as a Gentzen-type sequent calculus. The logic CP can simulate the classical negation in classical logic by paraconsistent double negation in CP.

Double Negation Operator in Logic N ∗
Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2015Summary: We obtain an axiomatization of the double Routley negation operator as a necessity operator in the logic \(N^*\). We introduce the logic \(N^\sharp\) describing the behavior of the double Routley negation operator, define the Kripke semantics of \(N^\sharp\), prove its completeness, and establish the finite approximation property and ...

AbstractThis chapter introduces the contours of the classical Ismāʿīlī negative theology of the divine essence. The apophatic path developed by Ismāʿīlī scholars had distinct cosmological markers and a logical structure that enabled the performative self-cancellation of discourse about the inaccessible divine essence.

The paper presents data on a syntactic structure that combines two different markers to express sentential negation in a wide variety of languages all over West-Africa. As areal distribution of this ‘double negation-marking’ illustrates the non-genetic character of the feature, an explanation in terms of language-contact processes is put ...

Double negation in Buddhist logic
Journal of Indian Philosophy, 1975Enroute to this conference1,1 met three nominalists. Bearing in mind that our general topic was metaphysics and logic, it occurred to me to enlist some help from these paragons of metaphysical discipline. What I found, remarkably enough, was that their common metaphysical position (or perhaps one should say, their common anti-metaphysical position ...

Jespersen cycles in Bantu: double and triple negation
Journal of African Languages and Linguistics, 2013Abstract: This paper gives an overview of post-verbal negative marking in Bantu languages. It shows that, although Bantu studies tend to concentrate on negation marked on the verb itself, post-verbal negative markers are well represented within the Bantu domain and high concentrations can be found in zones B, C, H and L.

Hegel regards Spinoza as the most important rationalist. In confrontation with the philosopher from Amsterdam, Hegel’s methodology of self-movement and his criticism of the metaphysics of the understanding find especially lucid expression.

A Hierarchy of Weak Double Negations
Studia Logica, 2013In this paper, a way of constructing many-valued paraconsistent logics with weak double negation axioms is proposed. A hierarchy of weak double negation axioms is addressed in this way. The many-valued paraconsistent logics constructed are defined as Gentzen-type sequent calculi. The completeness and cut-elimination theorems for these logics are proved
