Corrosion in Modular Revision Hip Stem Tapers – A Retrieval Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Research, Volume 44, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT In revision hip arthroplasty, modular stems enable intraoperative adjustment of the biomechanics of the hip to ensure a stable joint function even in complex anatomical cases. Modular stem junctions, however, carry the risk of junction degradation due to corrosive processes or even junction breakage.

Enhancing Efficiency in Double‐Pipe Heat Exchangers: A Detailed Review of NanoFluids and Their Impact on Thermal Performance

open access: yesHeat Transfer, Volume 55, Issue 1, Page 212-240, January 2026.
ABSTRACT This study reviews recent advances in using nanofluids to enhance double‐pipe heat exchanger (DPHE) efficiency. The review examines several types of nanofluids, that is, water‐based graphene oxide and CuO–water nanofluids, assessing their effectiveness under different operating conditions, including inlet temperature and nanoparticle volume ...

Evolution of a laser shock peened residual stress field locally with foreign object damage and subsequent fatigue crack growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Foreign object damage (FOD) can seriously shorten the fatigue lives of components. On the other hand, laser shock peening improves fatigue life by introducing deep compressive residual stress into components.

Design, Manufacture and Prospects of Heterostructured Materials

open access: yescMat, Volume 2, Issue 4, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Heterostructured materials, characterized by distinct microstructures and mechanical properties across different micro‐regions, have consistently demonstrated their ability to effectively mitigate the strength‐ductility trade‐off in structural materials.

Effects of Laser and Shot Peening on Fatigue Crack Growth in Friction Stir Welds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The effects of laser, and shot peening on the fatigue life of Friction Stir Welds (FSW) have been investigated. The surface roughness resulting from various peening techniques was assessed, and the fracture surfaces microstructure was characterized ...

Fatigue Limit Doubling in High‐Strength Martensitic Steel through Crack Embryo Engineering–Cyclic‐Training‐Driven Self‐Optimization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 33, September 4, 2025.
This study demonstrates a breakthrough in overcoming the conventional fatigue limit ceiling in high‐strength as‐quenched martensitic steel; maximum stress corresponding to the fatigue limit significantly increased from 675 to 1300 MPa with minimal sacrifice in tensile strength (1.5–1.6 GPa).

The Double Hierarchy Method: a parallel 3D contact method for the interaction of spherical particles with rigid FE boundaries using the DEM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s40571-016-0109-4In this work, we present a new methodology for the treatment of the contact interaction between rigid boundaries and spherical discrete elements (DE).

Microscale Metal Additive Manufacturing by Solid‐State Impact Bonding of Shaped Thin Films

open access: yesSmall, Volume 21, Issue 36, September 11, 2025.
The deposition of device‐grade metals is one key challenge toward additive micromanufacturing. The impact‐induced solid‐state bonding of metal thin films for the additive assembly of high‐purity, high‐density metals with micrometer‐scale precision, is introduced.

Effect of Ultrasonic Shot Peening on Microstructure and Corrosion Properties of GTA-Welded 304L Stainless Steel

open access: yesCrystals
Austenitic stainless steels used in structural applications suffer from stress corrosion cracking due to residual stresses during welding. Much research is being conducted to prevent the stress corrosion cracking of austenitic steels by inducing ...

Surface integrity after pickling and anodization of Ti–6Al–4V titanium alloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The surface integrity of Ti–6Al–4V titanium alloy was studied at different stages of surface treatments, especially pickling and compact anodization, through surface characteristics potentially worsening fatigue resistance.
