Dowel Arthrodesis for Degenerative Arthritis of the Tarsometatarsal (Lisfranc) Joints

Foot & Ankle, 1986
A late complication of fracture with dislocation involving the tarsometatarsal joints of the foot (Lisfranc fracture) is progressive degenerative arthritis and pain. A dowel-graft arthrodesis technique is described that uses percutaneous bone graft from the iliac crest supplemented by crossed-wire fixation.

Misalignment of Dowel Bars in Rigid Pavement Joints

Sustainable Construction Materials 2012, 2012
The performance of concrete pavements depends to a large extent upon the satisfactory performance of the joints. Most jointed concrete pavement failures can be attributed to failures at the joint, as opposed to inadequate structural capacity (FHWA, November 30, 1990).

Zig-zag rotational dowel welding for exterior wood joints

Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology, 2007
Azig-zag pattern of rotationally welded dowels across the interface of a butt joint between two wood planks was shown to yield strong joints without any adhesive. Tests after 2 h in boiling water showed that the joints were able to resist both 2 h immersion in boiling water, as well as the subsequent oven drying.

Application of Numerical Modelling to Dowel-Welded Wood Joints

Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology, 2010
Numerical models using a 3-D finite element analysis method and the behaviour of dowel-welded wood joints are presented. Simulation results for step butt wood joints with two welded wood dowels under shear are analyzed and a good agreement with the experimental results is shown. Anisotropic elasto-plastic constitutive law with hardening associated with

Effect of Dowel-Bar Misalignment across Concrete Pavement Joints

Transactions of the American Society of Civil Engineers, 1938
The subject of joints in concrete pavements, to provide for expansion and contraction, and the means of transferring load across joints, is of particular interest to those engaged in highway constr...

The Design of Plain Doweled Jointed Concrete Pavement

Proceedings of the International Conference on Concrete Pavements
This report explores the controversies and consensus on the use of dowel bars in jointed concrete pavements, focusing on medium to heavy truck traffic routes. Historically, dowels have been recognized for their role in load transfer at expansion joints and in long, reinforced slabs.

Experimental Investigation of Joint Wood-Concrete Composite Structures Jointed by Special Type Dowels

1999
Experimental and theoretical researches of timber-concrete composite structures have been lately performed within a scientific project at the Faculty of civil engineering in Osijek. Bonds by means of dowels, which are produced in series, have been especially researched.

Joints in Tempered Glass Using Glass Dowel Discs

2010
One of the major reasons for using glass in structures is its transparency; however, traditional mechanical joints such as friction joints and steel dowel pinned connections are compromising the transparency. The present paper describes a novel joint which is practically maintaining the complete transparency of the glass.
