Dowel design of the shear plate dowel joint

open access: yesEngineering Structures, 2020
Abstract The shear plate dowel joint (SPDJ) is a novel connection design for heavy timber structures. The connection uses a single large diameter dowel and glued-on steel plates to transfer loads between members. Consequently, the design of the dowel is of great influence for the global performance of the connection.

Design and Analysis on Interference Fit in the Hardwood Dowel-glued Joint by Finite Element Method

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2014
The wood dowel is often used in connection of furniture members due to its convenience. However, it is common to see the wood dowel unfastened in the furniture joint.

Experimental investigation on the combined effect of dowel misalignment and cyclic wheel loading on dowel bar performance in JPCP [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering Structures, 2018
A number of previous studies indicated that the joint lockup due to misalignment and looseness of dowel bars may cause joint distress in Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement (JPCP).

Stiffness of scarf joints with dowels

Computers & Structures, 2018
Abstract Repairs to historical timber structures include connecting existing beams and new beams. Older ways of making the connection need to be used to ensure authenticity of the beam. In most cases, e.g. floor structures, the second limit state – serviceability – is of decisive importance.

Effect of dowel bar position deviation on joint load-transfer ability of cement concrete pavement

open access: yesInternational Journal of Pavement Research and Technology, 2016
A double-layer structure model of pavements that considered interlayer contact status was established to manage the dowel-bar position deviation problem in rigid pavements.

Peg and Dowel Fusion of the Proximal Interphalangeal Joint

Foot & Ankle, 1980
The clawtoe or hammertoe deformity is frequently encountered in office practice. The etiology of this condition remains obscure, although intrinsic atrophy or imbalance was suspected as early as 1863 by Duchenne. Arthrodesing the proximal interphalangeal joint converts the more powerful flexor tendon to a flexor of the metatarsophalangeal joint ...

Dowel Type Joints in Agglomerated Wood

Advanced Materials Research, 2014
The objectives of this paper are base characteristics of single-shear joints in elements of agglomerated wood. These characteristics (deformation and embedment strength) are determined on the basis of destructive laboratory testing (proceeded according to valid standards for destructive laboratory testing).

Dowel Arthrodesis for Degenerative Arthritis of the Tarsometatarsal (Lisfranc) Joints

Foot & Ankle, 1986
A late complication of fracture with dislocation involving the tarsometatarsal joints of the foot (Lisfranc fracture) is progressive degenerative arthritis and pain. A dowel-graft arthrodesis technique is described that uses percutaneous bone graft from the iliac crest supplemented by crossed-wire fixation.

Weather exposure durability of welded dowel joints

Holz als Roh- und Werkstoff, 2007
A zigzag pattern of rotationally welded dowels across the interface of a butt joint between two wood planks, without any adhesive, was shown to yield joints presenting some resistance to weather exposure, although not of exterior grade type.

THE INFLUENCE OF THE NUMBER AND POSITION OF DOWELS ON THE BENDING MOMENT CAPACITY OF HEAT-TREATED WOOD DOWEL JOINTS

Series II: Forestry Wood Industry Agricultural Food Engineering, 2021
In this work, the influence of the number of dowels and the option to place the dowels in the cross section of part on the bending moment capacity of heat-treated wood dowel joints was analysed. The joints, which were made of heat-treated ash, were tested by means of a universal testing machine. The ultimate failure load and the moment arms were used to
