Importance of dowels in transversal joints in concrete pavements
Concrete pavements are designed for heavy loaded road structures. Their usage brings a number of specific issues. It is necessary to solve them all to ensure that concrete pavements will fulfil their function along the whole design period. One of these issues concerns dowels, which are located in transversal joints.

Strengthening of large diameter singel dowel joints
A preliminary study for implementation of a novel truss node is presented. For this purpose, the load-slip behaviour of double-shear loaded single large dowel joints was investigated. Out of a total of 26 laboratory shear tests, 5 were performed on non-reinforced specimens.

Alternative Material Dowel Bars for Rigid Pavement Joints
Over the last thirty to forty years, dowel support of the joint in Rigid Joint Pavement (RJP) has been widely used. The problem of deterioration of concrete pavement joints has resulted in the search for alternate solutions. Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) and stainless steel represent corrosion resistant alternatives to conventional galvanized steel in

Reliability Measurements of the Furniture Frames with Selected Joint Types
The reliability was evaluated for frame construction with mortise and tenon (MT), dowel, and non-glued and glued staple joints made of beech wood. The moment capacities of the T-shaped joints were determined under static vertical loads.

NUMERICAL STUDY OF DOWELED EXPANSION JOINTS ON PLAIN CONCRETE PAVEMENT SYSTEM
In this paper, the ABAQUS / CAE 6.13.1 program is used to study the effect of several variables on the efficiency of the load transfer through an expansion joint in a plain concrete pavement system under the influence of the static wheel load.

Shear force capacity of various doweled frame type furniture joints
Tests were carried out to determine the ultimate shear force capacity of numerous of doweled frame type furniture joints under controlled laboratory conditions. Sugar maple (Acer saccharum), soft maple (Acer negund), yellow poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera), sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua) and black walnut (Juglans nigra) were utilized in ...

Structural joints with glued-in hardwood dowels
Joints with axially loaded glued-in hardwood dowels were studied. A dowel whose length is ten times as long as diameter is glued into a loose-fit hole. The dowelhole clearance is filled with flexible polyuretane adhesive to relieve shear-stress concentration along a bond line.
