Distinct 5′ UTR Requirements for Translation of the Bicistronic X/P mRNA Among Avian Orthobornaviruses

open access: yesMicrobiology and Immunology, Volume 70, Issue 2, Page 80-90, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Orthobornaviruses express X and the phosphoprotein (P) from a bicistronic X/P mRNA, and these proteins regulate polymerase activity. In mammalian orthobornaviruses, the 5′ untranslated region (5′ UTR) of the X/P mRNA controls the translational balance between X and P and thereby promotes efficient replication.

Patient characteristics, antibiotic use, and in‐hospital outcomes in patients with ischaemic colitis: A nationwide retrospective cohort study

open access: yesColorectal Disease, Volume 28, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Aim To describe patient characteristics, management and in‐hospital outcomes of ischaemic colitis, and to compare the rates of surgery and in‐hospital death between patients who did and did not receive antibiotics. Method We retrospectively identified hospital admissions for ischaemic colitis between April 2016 and March 2023 from the ...

Correlation Between the Dementia Assessment Sheet for Community‐Based Integrated Care System‐21 Scores and Criteria for Determination of the Daily Life Independence Level of Older Adults With Dementia Using the Diagnosis Procedure Combination Database

open access: yesGeriatrics &Gerontology International, Volume 26, Issue 2, February 2026.
We validated the DPC‐recorded Criteria for Determining the Daily Life Independence Level of Older Adults with Dementia (CDED) by comparing it with DASC‐21 obtained from medical records in 9401 inpatients aged ≥ 65 years. Mean DASC‐21 increased stepwise across CDED 0–4; CDED M reflected care complexity rather than ordinal severity.

MSC‐Derived Secretome and Exosomes in Dermatology: Mechanisms, Therapeutic Opportunities, and Scientific Challenges—A Narrative Review

open access: yesInternational Journal of Dermatology, Volume 65, Issue 2, Page 257-272, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) exert their effects primarily through paracrine signaling via soluble factors and extracellular vesicles (EVs), especially exosomes. These acellular components offer regenerative and immunomodulatory benefits with fewer safety and logistical constraints than cell‐based therapies.

Modulation of SAL retrograde signalling promotes yield and water productivity responses in dynamic field environments

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 3, Page 1219-1233, February 2026.
Summary Chloroplast‐to‐nucleus retrograde signalling enables rapid stress responses in plants, but whether these signals accumulate to affect crop performance across entire growing seasons under field conditions remains unknown. We generated wheat mutants with targeted deletions in specific SAL gene copies from two distinct homeologous groups (TaSAL1 ...

Physical Proximity With Social Support Regulates Vigilance to Threat: Evidence From Startle Reactivity During Emotional Stress Induction

open access: yesPsychophysiology, Volume 63, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Access to social support during emotional stress is one of the most important factors for the successful regulation of stress‐induced psychophysiological activation, and is predictive of improved health and well‐being. In this research we wanted to deepen our understanding of this buffering effect, focusing on the modulation of the startle ...

A Localized Version of the Dual‐Primal Finite Element Tearing and Interconnecting Method for the Partitioned Analysis of Heterogeneous Structural Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 127, Issue 2, 30 January 2026.
ABSTRACT FETI‐DP is a mature domain decomposition algorithm that has been successfully applied to different problems, demonstrating impressive performance. To be effective, the algorithm needs to be equipped with different technicalities that somewhat complicate its implementation.
