Real‐World Cost and Utilisation Burden of Diagnosed Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes in the United States: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims This study quantified the real‐world healthcare costs and utilisation associated with diagnosed metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) among adults with Type 2 diabetes (T2D). Methods We conducted a retrospective cohort study using IQVIA PharMetrics Plus Closed Health Plan data from January 2016 to June 2025 ...

Oral Semaglutide in Routine Clinical Practice: 24‐Month Real‐World Effectiveness, Persistence and Safety in Adults With Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims Real‐world long‐term data on oral semaglutide are limited. We evaluated its 24‐month effectiveness, persistence, and safety in adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Materials and Methods This retrospective real‐world study included 232 adults with T2D initiating oral semaglutide at an Italian diabetes clinic.

Metformin Use Is Associated With Better Cognitive Performance in Older Adults With Type 2 Diabetes: Exploratory Analysis of Vitamin B12 and Methylmalonic Acid Pathways in NHANES 2011–2014

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims Metformin, the first‐line treatment for Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), may be neuroprotective but also lowers serum vitamin B12 by ~19%, raising concern that B12 depletion could offset this benefit. We used modern exploratory causal mediation methods in a nationally representative sample to test whether vitamin B12 and methylmalonic ...

Acute Effects of Acarbose and Canagliflozin, Alone and in Combination, on Postprandial GLP‐1 and Glycaemic Responses in Post‐Bariatric Hypoglycaemia: A Randomised Crossover Study

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim To evaluate the acute effects of acarbose and canagliflozin, alone and in combination, on postprandial total GLP‐1 and glycaemic responses during a mixed meal test in adults with post‐bariatric hypoglycaemia (PBH). Materials and Methods This single‐centre, randomised, four‐period crossover physiological study included 12 adults with PBH ...

The sorting nexin Snx21 promotes flotillin‐mediated endocytosis

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
In this study, we describe a novel function of the previously uncharacterized Snx21 protein as a specific positive regulator of flotillin‐mediated endocytic trafficking. Snx21 is recruited to endosomal membranes via binding to PI(3)P, and it colocalizes with flotillins on the surface of late endosomes.

GSK3α‐mediated regulation of the RNA demethylase fat mass and obesity‐associated protein (FTO) during murine spermatogenesis

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
FTO regulates mRNA stability and translational efficiency through its m6A‐demethylation activity. GSK3 functions as an upstream regulator of FTO, leading to its inhibition via phosphorylation. In male germ cells, FTO activity is kept in check by GSK3α.
