On the horseshoe drag of a low-mass planet. II Migration in adiabatic disks
We evaluate the horseshoe drag exerted on a low-mass planet embedded in a gaseous disk, assuming the disk's flow in the coorbital region to be adiabatic.

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Force and torque acting on particles in a transitionally rough open channel flow
Direct numerical simulation of open channel flow over a geometrically rough wall has been performed at a bulk Reynolds number of approximately 2900. The wall consisted of a layer of spheres in a square arrangement. Two cases have been considered.

Bubbly Turbulent Drag Reduction Is a Boundary Layer Effect [PDF]
In turbulent Taylor-Couette flow, the injection of bubbles reduces the overall drag. On the other hand, rough walls enhance the overall drag. In this work, we inject bubbles into turbulent Taylor-Couette flow with rough walls (with a Reynolds number up ...

An estimation method of full scale performance for pulling type podded propellers
: This paper presents a new estimation method of full scale propulsive performance for the pulling type podded propeller. In order to estimate the drag of pod housing, a drag velocity ratio, which includes the effects of podded propeller loading and ...

Impacts of planet migration models on planetary populations. Effects of saturation, cooling and stellar irradiation [PDF]
Context: Several recent studies have found that planet migration in adiabatic discs differs significantly from migration in isothermal discs. Depending on the thermodynamic conditions, i.e., the effectiveness of radiative cooling, and the radial surface ...

A rational approach to comparing the performance of coaxial and conventional rotors [PDF]
The merit, in terms of its efficiency and performance, of the twin, contrarotating coaxial rotor configuration over the more conventional single rotor system has long been a point of contention.
