Mechanics of Load–Drag–Unload Contact Cleaning of Gecko-Inspired Fibrillar Adhesives
Langmuir, 2014Contact self-cleaning of gecko-inspired synthetic adhesives with mushroom-shaped tips has been demonstrated recently using load-drag-unload cleaning procedures similar to that of the natural animal. However, the underlying mechanics of contact cleaning has yet to be fully understood.

Drag load modeling for multiple fractures in a borehole
Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics, 1987Abstract Fracture mechanics modeling of multiple fractures generated by a tailored pressure pulse in a borehole is a complex, coupled gas dynamics/solid mechanics problem. The specific problem addressed in this paper is the determination of crack tip stress intensity factors for arbitrary drag loadings along the crack surfaces.

Drag Loads From Vapor Cloud Explosions
Volume 4: Fluid-Structure Interaction, 2018Drag loads due to the gas flows generated by vapor cloud explosions (VCEs) can damage piping and vessels, particularly near or in the flammable cloud. There is little guidance available to the piping and vessel designer regarding the magnitude of such drag loads, beyond evaluating drag loads on a case-by-case basis [e.g., using computational fluid ...

Comment on "Ideal Tail Load for Minimum Aircraft Drag"
Journal of Aircraft, 1978P E. V. Laitone's Engineering Note on ''Ideal Tail Load for Minimum Aircraft Drag," [J. Aircraft 15, 190-192 (1978)] is interesting in its use of the basic biplane equation and Munk's stagger theorem for estimating trim drag. However, there are errors in the conclusions and some of the basic assumptions of the note.

Correlation between preload and no-load drag torque of ball screws
International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2016Abstract This paper examines the relationship between the preload and no-load drag torque of ball screws. Based on a new equation to calculate the normal contact load between balls and the screw raceway under no external load, a new correlation between preload and no-load drag torque is proposed.

Penetration and Load Capacity of Marine Drag Anchors in Soft Clay
Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 1998Marine drag anchors have developed significantly over the last few decades and are capable of providing anchorage loads in excess of 1,000 t. In spite of this progress, the prediction of the load capacity of such anchors has remained almost entirely empirical.
