Effects of Heat Addition on Wave Drag Reduction of a Spiked Blunt Body

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2021
Drag reduction technology plays a significant role in extending the flight range for a high-speed vehicle. A wave drag reduction strategy via heat addition to a blunt body with a spike was proposed and numerically validated.

Drag Characteristics for Optimally Span-Loaded Planar, Wingletted, and C Wings

open access: yesJournal of Aircraft, 2008
This paper focuses on the drag characteristics of optimally span-loaded planar, wingletted, and C wings. The span load is optimized resulting in minimum induced or total drag. The wing-root bending moment is kept constant for all analyzed wings to ascertain that different wings have comparable weight.

Is the critical Shields stress for incipient sediment motion dependent on channel-bed slope? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Data from laboratory flumes and natural streams show that the critical Shields stress for initial sediment motion increases with channel slope, which indicates that particles of the same size are more stable on steeper slopes.

Simulation of tail boom vibrations using main rotor-fuselage Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this work, fully-resolved rotor-fuselage interactional aerodynamics is used as the forcing term in a model based on the Euler-Bernoulli equation, aiming to simulate helicopter tail-boom vibration.

Drag Reduction of a Pipe Flow Using Suspensions

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2014
The addition of drag-reducing agents to reduce pipe friction loss has attracted attention as a method to conserve energy. In addition to reducing drag, these agents are required to have a low environmental load and conserve natural resources.

Study of a C-wing configuration for passive drag and load alleviation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Fluids and Structures, 2018
Non-planar wing configurations are often hypothesised as a means for improving the\ud aerodynamic efficiency of large transport aircraft; C-wings may have the ability to exploit\ud and unify drag reduction, aeroelasticity, and dynamics and control but their capacity to do\ud so is ambiguous.

An experimental investigation into the constant velocity water entry of wedge-shaped sections [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Constant velocity water entry is important in understanding planing and slamming of marine vessels. A test rig has been developed that drives a wedge section with end plates down guides to enter the water vertically at near constant velocity. Entry force

Optimization-based calibration of hydrodynamic drag coefficients for a semisubmersible platform using experimental data of an irregular sea state

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2020
For the simulation of the coupled dynamic response of floating offshore wind turbines, it is crucial to calibrate the hydrodynamic damping with experimental data.
