Drillstring Analysis With a Discrete Torque/Drag Model

SPE Drilling & Completion, 2013
Summary The only standard drillstring model in use today is the torque/drag model because of its simplicity and general availability. Field experience indicates that this model generally gives good results but sometimes performs poorly.

How Good is the Torque-Drag Model?

Proceedings of SPE/IADC Drilling Conference, 2007
Abstract Perhaps the only "standard" drillstring model in use today is the torque-drag model originally developed by Johancsik (1973) in 1984, and put in a standard form by Sheppard (1987). Because of the simplicity and general availability of this model, it has been used extensively for planning and in the field.

Advanced Torque and Drag Considerations in Extended-Reach Wells

IADC/SPE Drilling Conference, 1996
Abstract Excessive torque and drag can be critical limitations in Extended-Reach Drilling (ERD). This paper details issues related to torque and drag prediction, monitoring, and management in ERD wells. Results are presented from sensitivity analyses of extreme ERD trajectories such as 7 to 8 km departures at 1600 m TVD.

Efficiency Improvement of Electrically Activated Rotation-Flow Suction Unit Based on Drag Torque and Suction Force Modeling

IEEE/ASME transactions on mechatronics, 2020
An electrically activated rotation-flow suction unit uses rotating airflow to generate negative pressure and suction force on a working surface. Because the centrifugal force generated by the rotating flow helps prevent vacuum leakage, the suction unit ...

An experimental investigation on the influence of an assembly preload on the hysteresis, the drag torque, the lift-off speed and the thermal behavior of three-pad air foil journal bearings

Tribology International, 2019
Rotors supported by air foil journal bearings often show distinctive subharmonic oscillations arising from the nonlinear force-displacement relationship of the elastic foil structure. Also, air film induced instabilities may be observed in such bearings.

Drag, lift, and torque on a prolate spheroid resting on a smooth surface in a linear shear flow

, 2021
Understanding the aerodynamic forces on particles resting on a surface is important for studies of surface contamination, non-contact sampling, and environmental and health assessments.

Torque and drag field applications in horizontal wells

International Journal of Oil, Gas and Coal Technology, 2017
The industry of drilling for oil, gas geothermal, and storage purposes necessitates construction of challenging wells in recent applications. Challenging wells are required to be designed prior to the drilling to selection of the equipment to be utilised while drilling.
