Watersheds and Drainage Networks
2016Grid-based distributed hydrologic models rely on a drainage network to model basin response. A digital elevation model (DEM) is useful for characterizing the terrain and drainage network. Processing steps and DEM cell size affect the land surface slope, drainage network length and connectivity properties.

Gibbs' Distribution on drainage networks
Water Resources Research, 1992We propose a spatial stochastic model for drainage networks defined on a square lattice of points. The probability of a particular spanning tree s draining a given basin represented by a set of lattice points is proportional to exp [−βH(s)], where β is a parameter to be estimated and H(s) is defined to be the difference between total flow distance to ...

Skeletonizing a DEM into a drainage network
Computers & Geosciences, 1995Abstract A new method for extracting drainage systems from Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) is presented. The main algorithm of the proposed method performs a skeletonization process of the set of elevations in the DEM and produces a skeleton of flow paths. An enumeration algorithm performs the removal of loops from the initial flow path. A preprocess

Improvement of the Calculation of the Closed Collector-Drainage Network of Drainage Systems
2023The necessity and scientific and methodological approaches to improving the calculation of a closed collector-drainage network of drainage systems are considered. Based on the application of the system methodology, the structure of the hierarchical and hydraulic connection between the water regime of the field and the operation mode of the closed ...

Drainage Network and Topography
2001Little attention has been paid to the dependence of distributed parameter simulations on the resolution of the raster array or the triangular irregular network (TIN). Further, as these models are calibrated at one resolution, the question remains whether the calibrated parameters may be used without adjustment at larger cell sizes.

Junction angles in drainage networks
Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1984The systematics of tributary junction angles are an important link between the topology of a drainage network and its topography because the angle of junction depends on the relative slopes of the intersecting tributaries. I present here a model for stream junction angle as a function of position (link magnitude)within the network which quantitatively ...

Evolution of drainage networks and hillslopes
2002A two-dimensional hillslope model is presented which solves the coupled full hydrodynamic equations for overland flow, Richards equation for infiltration in one-dimension, and a physically based sediment detachment and transport equation. This is the most advanced hillslope model yet to be developed.

The analysis of drainage network composition
Earth Surface Processes, 1978AbstractThe Horton method of analyzing drainage network composition is reviewed, with the conclusion that it has not been very effective either in improving understanding or in developing useful methods of characterizing drainage basins. New methods which are based on the link rather than the Horton (or Strahler) stream are described.

Automatic Measurement of Drainage Networks
IEEE Transactions on Geoscience Electronics, 1970Two methods for measuring network lengths and areas by automatic methods are discussed. Results of experiments using drainage networks are presented and indicate that further study and refinement are warranted. The first method involves etching the network on a copper plate and measuring its capacitance.
