Return period curves for extreme 5-min rainfall amounts at the Barcelona urban network [PDF]
Heavy rainfall episodes are relatively common in the conurbation of Barcelona and neighbouring cities (NE Spain), usually due to storms generated by convective phenomena in summer and eastern and south-eastern advections in autumn.

Day/night variations of myeloid and lymphoid cell subsets in the murine inguinal lymph node
The circadian system is involved in the temporal regulation of the immune system. Our study reveals that two innate immune populations, NKT cells and neutrophils, predominate at the beginning of the day in healthy mice, highlighting how the time of day influences immune responses.

Unified View of Scaling Laws for River Networks
Scaling laws that describe the structure of river networks are shown to follow from three simple assumptions. These assumptions are: (1) river networks are structurally self-similar, (2) single channels are self-affine, and (3) overland flow into ...

Urban Drainage Network Rehabilitation Considering Storm Tank Installation and Pipe Substitution
The drainage networks of our cities are currently experiencing a growing increase in runoff flows, caused mainly by the waterproofing of the soil and the effects of climate change.

Monitoring planning for urban drainage networks
Abstract Urban drainage network (UDN) monitoring is an important task whose planning can be related to various purposes, as for example contaminant detection and epidemiological studies. This paper proposes two different strategies for the identification of a monitoring system for UDNs.

KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...

Evolution of drainage patterns in active fold-thrust belts: A case study in the Qilian Mountains
The Qilian Mountains are a typical active fold-thrust belt. A series of large and elongated drainage basins are oriented almost parallel to the Mountain Chain.

Burst dynamics during drainage displacements in porous media: Simulations and experiments
We investigate the burst dynamics during drainage going from low to high injection rate at various fluid viscosities. The bursts are identified as pressure drops in the pressure signal across the system.

Sediment and particulate carbon removal by pipe erosion increase over time in blanket peatlands as a consequence of land drainage [PDF]
Land drainage is common in peatlands. Artificially drained blanket peat catchments have been shown to have a significantly greater soil pipe density than intact catchments.
