Tumors of the Lacrimal Drainage System

Orbit, 2010
Tumors of the lacrimal drainage system are rare, but potentially life-threatening. They comprise a large and variable spectrum of entities grouped into three major categories of primary epithelial, primary nonepithelial and inflammatory lesions. The most common primary epithelial tumors include papilloma, squamous cell carcinoma and transitional cell ...

A “friendly” system for pericardial drainage

Cardiology in the Young, 2000
AbstractWe describe an alternative to the water-seal system, suitable for drainage of pericardial and eventually pleural effusions, which has been shown to safe, effective, not painful, and rather “friendly”, providing patients with a smoother clinical course.

Evaluation of the Lacrimal Drainage System

Ophthalmology, 1978
Methods of testing for lacrimal drainage insufficiency and a modification of the Jones fluorescein dye tests are presented. Despite their excellence, Jones tests have never been widely employed because of difficulty in dye retrieval. The modification consists of instilling one drop of the dye three times at 15 second intervals, and after a one minute ...

An improved system of bladder drainage

Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 2001
Summary: We report the successful use of a modified No. 8 infant feeding tube for postoperative bladder drainage in 100 gynaecological patients after surgery. In previous years, problems arising from the use of transurethral postoperative catheter drainage led to the use of various types of suprapubic catheter drainage after gynaecological surgery ...

[Wound drainage with a continuous high vacuum drainage system and a drainage system with variable vacuum].

Der Unfallchirurg, 1996
A study of 120 total hip replacements showed the advantages of the variable vacuum drainage system over the continuous high vacuum drainage system. Better wound healing, less severe hematomas and less occlusion of drains confirmed the higher effectiveness of secretion draining.

Lacrimal Drainage System Obstruction

Seminars in Ophthalmology, 2010
The lacrimal drainage system consists of the lacrimal puncta, inferior and superior canaliculi, common canaliculus, lacrimal sac, and nasolacrimal duct. It is classically divided into upper and lower portions. Obstruction of the drainage system can be congenital or acquired, and may result in persistent epiphora and mucopurulent discharge.

Drainage Systems for Condensation

Journal of Engineering for Power, 1974
Efficient condensing surfaces are highly desirable in the design of solar sea power plants utilizing the ocean temperature difference. This paper examines a number of surface designs and presents a convenient method for optimizing the design. In particular, the various parameters of a Gregorig surface are optimized.

A Model for Fluid Drainage by the Lymphatic System

Bulletin of Mathematical Biology, 2012
This study investigates the fluid flow through tissues where lymphatic drainage occurs. Lymphatic drainage requires the use of two valve systems, primary and secondary. Primary valves are located in the initial lymphatics. Overlapping endothelial cells around the circumferential lining of lymphatic capillaries are presumed to act as a unidirectional ...

Sustainable drainage system model

2016
Chapter 30 introduces different sustainable drainage system (SuDS) models using case studies for illustration purposes. Seventy-nine and 103 sites within Glasgow and Edinburgh, respectively, were identified to assess if SuDS can be integrated into future development, regeneration, and retrofitting plans. A practical SuDS decision support model, which

[Chest drainage systems and the complications associated with drainage].

Rozhledy v chirurgii : mesicnik Ceskoslovenske chirurgicke spolecnosti, 2015
Chest drainage inevitably involves attaching the drain to a chest drainage system. Chest drainage may be related to some specific complications. The aim of the article is to explain the classification and principles of the individual chest drainage systems. They may be divided into passive ones (valve and water seal) and active chest suction.
