Geography of roadkills within the Tropical Andes Biodiversity Hotspot: Poorly known vertebrates are part of the toll

We analyzed wildlife roadkill patterns along a road network between tree protected areas in the Andes of Ecuador. Roadkills included poorly known small and endemic vertebrates, such as caecilians (Gymnophiona) and fossorial snakes (Atractus spp.). Most roadkills occurred in areas where roads crossed pasturelands adjacent to natural habitat.

Transanal total mesorectal excision for locally advanced middle–low rectal cancers

A prospective study was undertaken of 38 patients with mid–low locally advanced rectal cancer who underwent rectal resection with transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME) procedure. No conversions, abdominoperineal resections or deaths occurred. TaTME is safe and effective for patients with mid–low locally advanced rectal cancer.

Topical moistening of mastectomy wounds with diluted tranexamic acid to reduce bleeding: randomized clinical trial

Moistening surgical wounds with tranexamic acid 25 mg/ml before closure is a simple, low‐cost intervention that reduces bleeding by one‐third and may reduce risk of rebleeding. The effect is comparable to intravenous administration, with a reduced risk of systemic adverse events.
