DRIBBLING FROM AN UMBILICAL FISTULA

The continuous dribble of clear acid fluid from an umbilical fistula is not necessarily pathognomonic of a patent urachus. An 8 1/2-month-old child was referred because of an intensely inflamed umbilicus from which clear fluid had dribbled constantly since birth. The history was otherwise noncontributory.

MELDRETH DRIBBLE‐CONTROL PROJECT

Summary Seven subnormal spastic children aged 15–16 years, who had the additional problem of profuse dribbling, were trained to associate an auditory cue, from a small box pinned to their clothes, with swallowing. A significant reduction in dribble rate was obtained for all children within the first week.
