Stratapax Drill Bit for Gulf Coast Drilling
A drill bit employing GE Stratapax drill blanks has been developed for Gulf Coast drilling. Single point cutting tests demonstrated superior impact qualities of Stratapax when compared to natural diamonds. A new “pocket” brazing technique was developed to achieve a suitable attachment to a hard matrix bit body.

Drill bit seismic: A drilling optimization tool
Computer Standards & Interfaces, 1998Abstract In recent years a new drilling optimization technique has emerged. Drill bit seismic uses the acoustic energy radiated by a working drill bit to provide time-to-depth and look-ahead information while drilling. This information, available in real time at the wellsite, significantly reduces uncertainty.

Abstract A case of an EndoButton drill bit failure associated with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using semitendinosus gracilis autograft is reported. The distal 10 mm flutes of the drill bit sheared off prior to graft passage. This event was likely related to repeated use of this bit, which is intended for single use only.

While Drilling Checkshots and Prediction Ahead of the Bit Using a Drill Bit As a Source
82nd EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition, 2021Summary DrillCAM is a fully integrated real-time system for predicting and imaging ahead of and around the drill bit by utilizing seismic-while-drilling data (SWD) as well as assisting with drilling optimization and automation. We present results and analysis of several SWD applications from the first field trial in an onshore well in a desert ...

EXPERIENCE WITH STRATAPAX DRILL BITS
Proceedings of Southeast Asia Show, 1984Abstract Polycrystalline Diamond Compact (PDC) bits have been extensively used in Polycrystalline Diamond Compact (PDC) bits have been extensively used in oil field drilling for sometime. Major performance gains have been reported for use of these bits in oil based drilling fluids, operating on mud motors.

Drilling Performance is a Function of Power at the Bit and Drilling Efficiency
IADC/SPE Drilling Conference and Exhibition, 2012Abstract Today’s sophisticated data acquisition systems for both surface and downhole drilling data have greatly enhanced the understanding of the basic drilling mechanics and helped in the identification of major dysfunctions particularly harmful downhole vibrations.

Optimization of Drill Bits for Bone Drilling Procedure
Volume 1: Additive Manufacturing; Bio and Sustainable Manufacturing, 2018The paper presents a methodology to optimize drill bits to realize safe drilling of bone materials for many surgeries like orthopedics and neurosurgery. First, a mechanistic model is introduced to relate drilling forces to main drill bit geometry parameters. Then a genetic algorithm is developed to optimize drill bit geometry parameters by minimization

Drill-Bit Catalog and Bit Index: a New Method for Bit Performance Evaluation
Proceedings of SPE Latin American and Caribbean Petroleum Engineering Conference, 2005Abstract The paper analyzes the application of a new method for the evaluation of bit performances. At present, the most utilized methods for bit performance evaluation are mainly based on the cost-per-foot. This approach is definitely a good reference system, but it represents only a mere economic calculation, and is not well suited for

The seismic body wave radiation pattern of a working rock bit can be characterized by theoretical modeling and field data examples. My model of drill-bit signal generation is a pseudo-random series of bit tooth impacts that create both axial forces and tangential torques about the borehole axis.
