Drill-String Dynamics: Reduced-Order Models and Experimental Studies

open access: yesJournal of Vibration and Acoustics, Transactions of the ASME, 2011
In this article, reduced-order models of a drill-string system are developed, the predictions of these models are studied, and qualitative comparisons are made with experimental studies.

The Study on Vibration of Drill String of ERW

2008 International Conference on Computer Science and Software Engineering, 2008
During exploitation of extended reach well (ERW) drilling engineer, the problem of drill string failure is very serious; drill string vibrations are main reasons. In this paper drill string of extended reach well of different part is object being studied. The models about various vibrations are set up. Modal vibrations of drill string are studied.

Effects of Drill String Length on Stick–Slip Oscillation of the Oilwell Drill String

Iranian Journal of Science and Technology, Transactions of Mechanical Engineering, 2019
It has been demonstrated by numerous field data that the stick–slip phenomenon tends to appear in deep wells. However, the explanation for this phenomenon has scarcely been studied. Based on a torsional pendulum model, the relationship between stick–slip oscillation and drill string (DS) length is studied in this work.
