High Feed Rate Drilling of Aluminum Alloy

Materials Science Forum, 2000
With the prime objective of contriving an effective method of drilling on conventional machine tools with conventional drills, the high feed rate drilling of aluminum alloy A1050, A2017 and A6061 is attempted with titanium nitride coated SKH56 drills under cutting conditions (1500rpm, 1.0mm/rev) harsher than those generally employed.

High Penetration Rate Drilling with Coiled Tubing

International Conference on Horizontal Well Technology, 1996
Abstract Underbalanced drilling has generally been recognized as providing drilling penetration rates exceeding those of conventional overbalanced drilling operations. The use of coil tubing, with its absence of connections and resulting continuous drilling, can further influence rates of penetration.

An Empirical Correlation to Predict Diamond Bit Drilling Rates

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 1980
ABSTRACT Diamond bit drilling tests have been performed at the Drilling Research Laboratory (DRL) in Salt Laie City, Utah. These tests were sponsored and supervised by the Shell Development Company. The tests simulated down hole drilling pressures on a typical diamond drill bit and oilfield formation.

Comprehensive Drill-Rate Management Process To Maximize Rate of Penetration

Proceedings of SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 2006
Abstract The operator's drill rate management process is designed to maximize rate of penetration (ROP) in every foot of hole drilled. Due to its quantitative nature and the degree to which it is incorporated into all phases of the drill well process, the operator believes it to be the industry's first comprehensive ROP design process ...

Drilling with Ultrashort Laser Pulses at High Repetition Rates

2015
Ultrashort laser pulses offer extraordinary precision in microprocessing a variety of materials, especially metals. Thermal and mechanical damage can be minimized by working at fluences not too far above the ablation threshold. However, this comes at the expense of low ablation rates and thus high processing times.

Cuttability assessment using the Drilling Rate Index (DRI)

Bulletin of Engineering Geology and the Environment, 2015
For given geological conditions, cuttability or performance prediction can be expressed by specific cutting force (SFC), specific normal force (SFN), specific energy (SE), and pick wear rate. These parameters are difficult to determine. For this reason researchers try to assess these parameters indirectly by rock mechanical parameters.

Effect of Mud Column Pressure on Drilling Rates

Transactions of the AIME, 1955
Published in Petroleum Transactions, AIME, Volume 204, 1955, pages 196–204. Abstract If a dense fluid such as mud or water is used for circulation, the formation drilled is influenced by a hydrostatic pressure. This pressure depends on hole depth and drilling fluid density.

A Newly Developed Drilling Rate Model Optimizes Drilling Efficiency Using Artificial Intelligence

International Petroleum Technology Conference
Abstract Rate of penetration is defined as the depth of the drilled rock per time unit while drilling. Alternatively, drilling rate or rate of penetration (ROP) is the speed of drilling. It is usually stated as drilled footage per hour (ft/hr). ROP has a major impact on the cost optimization and accelerating delivery of wells.
