Optimization of Limit Drilling Parameters for High-Inclination Wells in the Bohai Sea Based on Drillstring Dynamics

Processes
With continued expansion of offshore oil and gas development, the number of high-inclination wells has increased rapidly. During drilling of such wells, vibration transmission from the bottom drillstring to the wellhead is significantly attenuated ...

Hole enlargement by drillstring stabilizers

Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2019
Abstract The goal of this study is to quantify the hole enlargement caused by drillstring stabilizers and the relation of this enlargement to the drilling parameters, contact forces, and rock strength. For this purpose, an extensive test campaign was conducted. In each test, a real-size stabilizer is placed within a predrilled hole in a mortar block.

New Mechanism in Drillstring Vibration

Offshore Technology Conference, 1990
ABSTRACT In deep well drilling for oil and gas, it has been observed and recorded that severe vibrations build up and die down periodically. The beating phenomenon is a frequent occurrence, particularly, during all startup tests and on most of those exhibiting the low frequency torsional vibration.

Modeling the effects of drillstring eccentricity, pipe rotation and annular blockage on cuttings transport in deviated wells

, 2020
Transportation of drilled cuttings from the bit to the surface is one of the primary functions of a drilling fluid. This transport is facilitated primarily by pump rate and the rheology and density of the drilling fluid, which all contribute to cuttings ...

Stability of the equilibrium of rotating drillstrings

International Applied Mechanics, 2006
The quasistatic stability of a rotating drillstring under longitudinal force and torque is analyzed. Constitutive equations are derived, and a technique to solve them is proposed. It is shown that the buckling mode of the drillstring is helical within a section subjected to compressive ...

Modeling and numerical study on drillstring lateral vibration for air drilling in highly-deviated wells

, 2020
The combination of directional well technique and air drilling has been regarded as an effective technique for drilling engineering. Given the currently inadequate understanding of drillstring lateral vibration for air drilling in highly-deviated wells ...

Analytical and numerical studies of sonic drillstring dynamics

2016 24th Mediterranean Conference on Control and Automation (MED), 2016
In tunnel excavation, according to a geological shooting map for underground support, drilling of holes with limited depth is necessary. Machines with drillstring resonant frequency based input had proved their effectiveness in soil penetration. Finite element analysis (FEA) is commonly used to understand a drillstring dynamic behavior.

DYNAMIC MODELLING OF ROTATING DRILLSTRINGS WITH BOREHOLE INTERACTIONS

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1997
Abstract A dynamic model for the axial and transverse vibrations of a rotating drillstring is presented. The governing non-linear equations, which are obtained by using a Lagrangian approach, are fully coupled with time varying coefficients. They include the effects of gyroscopic moments, contact with the borehole wall, axial excitation due to bit ...

Stick-slip Whirl Interaction in Drillstring Dynamics

Journal of Vibration and Acoustics, 2002
Abstract This paper attempts to explain the complicated behavior of oilwell drillstring motion when both torsional stick-slip and lateral whirl vibration are involved. It is demonstrated that the observed phenomena in experimental drillstring data could be due to the fluid forces of the drilling mud. A Stick-slip Whirl Model is presented
