Labdanolic Acid as Synthetic Precursor of Active Drimanes

Natural Product Letters, 1995
Abstract Labdanolic acid 1, an abundant and easily isolable natural product, was transformed by simple and high yielding reactions into drimadiene 3, in multigram scale. Compound 3 could be a versatile synthon for the preparation of antifeedant drimanes.

Bioactive drimane sesquiterpenoids and aromatic glycosides from Cinnamosma fragrans

Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2017
Phytochemical investigation of the ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of the bark of Madagascan endemic and medicinal plant Cinnamosma fragrans led to the isolation of two drimane sesquiterpene derivatives: cinnafragroside A (1) and cinnafragrin E (2), two aromatic glycosides: 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenol 1-O-β-d-apiofuranosyl-(1→6)-β-d-glucopyranoside (3 ...

A drimane sesquiterpenoid lactone from Warburgia salutaris

Phytochemistry, 1999
The stem bark of Warburgia salutaris collected in Zoutpansberg mountains yielded a new drimane sesquiterpenoid lactone, salutarisolide, along with four known drimane sesquiterpenoids warburganal, mukaadial, polygodial and isopolygodial. The structure of salutarisolide was fully characterized from its spectral data.

Drimane-type sesqui- and norsesquiterpenoids from polygonum hydropiper

Phytochemistry, 1985
Abstract Polygonic acid, which shows weak anticomplement activity, has been isolated from leaves of Polygonum hydropiper together with four drimane-type sesquiterpenes, 11-ethoxycinnamolide, polygodial acetal, valdiviolide and fuegin and two drimane-type norsesquiterpenes, isopolygonal and polygonone.

The reactivity of drimane unsaturated dialdehydes towards nucleophiles

Tetrahedron, 1997
Abstract The reactivity of the potent antifeedants and antibiotics (−)-polygodial ( 1 ) and (−)-warburganal ( 3 ) [prepared from (−)- 1 ] towards amino acids and triacetic acid lactone ( 5 ) was compared to that of their C-9 epimers 2 and 4 [both prepared from (−)- 1 ]. Polygodial ( 1 ) reacts approximately 10 times faster than warburganal ( 3 ),

Terphenyl derivatives and drimane – Phathalide/isoindolinones from Hypoxylon fendleri BCC32408

Phytochemistry, 2017
The genus Hypoxylon, a member of the family Xylariaceae, has been known to produce significant secondary metabolites in terms of chemical diversity. Moreover, the compounds isolated can also be used as chemotaxonomic characters for differentiation among the two sections, which are sect. Annulata and sect. Hypoxylon. In our continuing chemical screening

Synthesis of fluorinated drimanes. Preparation of 9αF-drimenin

Tetrahedron Letters, 2003
Abstract A stereoselective approach to the 9α-fluorinated analogue of the natural drimane sesquiterpene drimenin starting from β-ionone is described. β-Ionone is transformed into a bicyclic β-cetoester from which 9αF-drimenin is prepared through stereoselective electrophilic fluorination at the C-9 with N -fluorobenzenesulfonimide followed by Wittig
