Several new drimane sesquirerpenes, peniopholide {1}, 3β-hydroxypeniopholide {2}, 3α-hydroxypeniopholide {3}, 3β-hydroxydihydroconfertifolin {5}, 6β-hydroxycinnamolide {8}, 6α-hydroxycinnamolide {10}, and 7α-hydroxyconfertifolin {11}, have been isolated from Peniophora polygonia, a fungus associated with aspen.
