Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

A Systematic Patent Review of Connected Vehicle Technology Trends

open access: yesFuture Transportation
Governments and manufacturers anticipate that connected vehicle deployments will reduce accidents, optimize traffic flow, and enhance the driving experience. Although extensive studies focus on the technical aspects of connected vehicles, a gap exists in

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Real-Time Prediction of UAV Pilot Operational Errors and Adaptive Threshold Optimization Under Temporal Models

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Transportation
Operational errors by UAV pilots have become a critical bottleneck constraining the safe development of the industry. Existing prediction methods mostly adopt unified models while neglecting the impact of individual pilot capability differences on error ...

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.

Structure‐forward targeting of claudins with synthetic binders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Claudins form the paracellular barriers between epithelial and endothelial tissues at tight junctions and are targets for molecular binders with the goal of modulating barrier permeability. Claudin‐binding molecules are relevant in drug delivery or in altering claudin interactions with disease‐causing proteins.

Time Difference Penalized Traffic Signal Timing by LSTM Q-Network to Balance Safety and Capacity at Intersections

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
The conflict between limited road resources and rapid car ownership makes the traffic signal timing become a pivotal challenge. Emerging studies have been carried out on adaptive signal timing, but most of them still focus on the throughput of ...

Online Intelligent Perception of Front Blind Area of Vehicles on a Full Bridge Based on Dynamic Configuration Monitoring of Main Girders

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Establishing an online perception mechanism for a driver’s front blind area on a full bridge under vertical vortex-induced vibration (VVIV) is essential for ensuring road safety and traffic control on bridge decks under specific conditions.

Engineering peptides into antibodies—opportunities and strategies for therapeutic innovation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Peptides and antibodies occupy complementary therapeutic niches. Peptides recognize difficult targets in a compact format, while antibodies add specificity, long half‐life, and effector functions. This review examines strategies that merge both modalities—peptide grafting into loops, terminal and Fc fusions, and bioconjugation—highlighting how ...
