Adjustable-Speed Drives

1994
Adjustable-speed drives have been a stalwart contributor to the success of many of the world’s industrial processes for years. Textile fiber manufacturing, steel mill rolling, automobile tire cord processing, and a myriad of other processes utilize adjustable-speed electric drives in the manufacturing process. High energy costs are now causing interest

Parameter sensitivity of speed estimation in speed sensorless induction motor drives

Proceedings of 4th IEEE International Workshop on Advanced Motion Control - AMC '96 - MIE, 2002
A method for evaluating the sensitivity of speed estimation to parameter variations in inverter motor drives with microprocessor based control is proposed in the paper. By using a full order flux asymptotic observer, the step by step analytical determination of the stator current error is carried out.

On the interharmonic components generated by adjustable speed drives

10th International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power. Proceedings (Cat. No.02EX630), 2004
The interharmonic generation process is addressed with reference to high power adjustable speed drives based on double stage conversion systems using line commutated or pulse width modulated inverters. Reference is made to ideal supply conditions. Formulas to forecast the interharmonic frequencies due to the interaction between the rectifier and the ...

Auditory Feedback Influences Perceived Driving Speeds

Perception, 2008
Reducing the level of internal noise is seen as a goal when designing modern cars. One danger of such a philosophy is that one is systematically attempting to alter one of the cues that can be used by drivers to estimate speed and this could bias speed judgments and driving behaviour.

High-Speed Electrical Machines and Drives.

IEEE Trans. Ind. Electron., 2014
The use of high-speed electrical machines and drives is in continuous evolution for a number of engineering applications, including electrical spindles for milling cutters and grinding, turbochargers, electrical turbo-compounding systems, aeroengine spools, helicopter and racing engines, and fuel pumps.

Adjustable Speed Drives.

1995
Abstract : This TechData Sheet is intended to help activity personnel identify cost effective energy projects for energy projects for Adjustable Speed Drives (ASDs). With this guide an energy manager can identify when an ASD is applicable and do a first-run evaluation of the project payback.

Constant-Speed Drives for Aircraft Alternators

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1945
IN LARGE MILITARY AIRCRAFT the demand upon the electric system has been increasing exponentially. At the start of the war, 50-ampere generators were considered ample; this rating soon jumped to 100, and now 200-ampere generators on our four-engine bombers are inadequate. As the limits of power output are reached, the necessity for satisfactory parallel

Drunk driving has a speeding problem

Traffic Injury Prevention
Alcohol and excessive speeding are both linked to elevated crash risk. Alcohol-related and speeding-related crashes are recorded and treated as distinct, with separate etiologies. Yet, speeding and alcohol use are interrelated. We speculate that speeding might account for some of the crash risk associated with drunk driving.Data from the Crash ...

Comfortable Driving Speed Evaluated

Proceedings of the Human Factors Society Annual Meeting, 1983
Since its enactment in 1974, the National Maximum Speed Limit (NmSL) of 55 miles per hour has remained a controversial law. Despite the enforcement efforts, recent studies have found that approximately 20 percent of all American motorists exceed the 55 m.p.h. limit.
