Driving Style Clustering using Naturalistic Driving Data

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2019
Knowledge of driving styles may contribute to traffic safety, riding experience, and support the design of advanced driver-assistance systems or highly automated vehicles. This study explored the possibility of identifying driving styles directly from driving parameters using data from the Strategic Highway Research Program 2 database.

Driving style estimation via inertial measurements

13th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2010
A correct driving style can strongly affect the fuel consumption. This work proposes a method to quantify the driving style economy via inertial measurements. It presents a low-cost and vehicle-independent system for the acquisition of the variables related to the dynamics of a vehicle.

Driving styles among young novice drivers—The contribution of parental driving styles and personal characteristics

Accident Analysis & Prevention, 2010
As part of the effort to ascertain why young drivers are more at risk for car crashes, attention has recently turned to the effects of family, including the intergenerational transmission of driving styles from parents to offspring. The current study sought to further understanding of the nature and aspects of the family influence with the help of ...

Eco-driving: An economic or ecologic driving style?

Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies, 2014
In this work the trade-off between economic, therefore fuel saving, and ecologic, pollutant emission reducing, driving is discussed. The term eco-driving is often used to refer to a vehicle operation that minimizes energy consumption. However, for eco-driving to be environmentally friendly not only fuel consumption but also pollutant emissions should ...

Measuring the Driver's Driving Style

2020 18th International Conference on Emerging eLearning Technologies and Applications (ICETA), 2020
The paper describes an alternative use of some smartphone sensors to determine the characteristics and driving style. Two applications have been designed and built. These applications enable the collection of data from the sensors of smartphones while driving and the evaluation of these measurements aimed at detecting the driver's driving style.

Psychological profiles and driving styles

Proceedings of the 16th Ergo'IA "Ergonomie Et Informatique Avancée" Conference on - Ergo'IA '18, 2018
Driving is a high demanding task, in terms of cognitive resources and in its proneness to generate stress in the driver. As it is interacting with personality and environmental factors, stress might influence our abilities to drive properly, and thus have dramatic consequences.

Driving style indicator using UDRIVE NDS data

Traffic Injury Prevention, 2018
In order to analyze specific events while driving (such as a safety critical event [SCE] or secondary task), we were interested in studying whether driving behavior was unusual around the event. An indicator characterizing driving style (driving style indicator [DSI]) was estimated for each driver by using naturalistic data.

Event-Based Driving Style Analysis

2019
Driving styles have been analyzed for different purposes, such as building intelligent road systems, ensuring fuel economy, improving road congestion, vehicle automation, and road safety. Nevertheless, driving analysis is an exciting and evolving topic to study in terms of enhancing Driver Assistance Systems (DAS) and mitigating vehicle accidents ...

Couple similarity for driving style

Transportation Research Part F: Traffic Psychology and Behaviour, 2006
Though gender differences in driving habits and behaviors are well documented, the similarity between couples for such behaviors has received little or no attention. This study examined the associations between 413 pairs of intimate partners who completed the multidimensional driving style inventory, a self-report scale which assesses four broad ...

Do people drive as they live, or are they transformed when they drive? A comparison of driving styles and living styles

Accident Analysis & Prevention, 2021
The question of whether "people drive as they live" or whether "they are transformed behind the wheel" has been addressed in previous research but it mainly focused on anger and aggressive behaviors. Current research tries to go further and compares driving styles with their analogous living styles to analyze both convergence and divergence in both ...
