Dromedary camel: A model of heat resistant livestock animal
Theriogenology, 2020Camels are highly adapted to harsh environments. The dromedary camel is adapted to a wide range of arid and semi-arid conditions. The aim of the present paper is to review some of the key adaptation characteristics of the dromedary and how they affect ...

The “dromedary hump” appearance
Abdominal Imaging, 2015The one-hump dromedary camel (Fig. 1) (distinguished from its two-hump Bactrian cousin) provides a descriptive metaphor for a focal contour bulge of the lateral, interpolar aspect of the left kidney. The ‘‘dromedary hump’’—caused by molding of the normal renal parenchyma by the adjacent spleen [1, 2]—was originally described at excretory urography (Fig.

Artificial insemination in dromedary camels
Animal Reproduction Science, 2013Artificial insemination (AI) is an important technique in all domestic species to ensure rapid genetic progress. The use of AI has been reported in camelids although insemination trials are rare. This could be because of the difficulties involved in collecting as well as handling the semen due to the gelatinous nature of the seminal plasma. In addition,

Trichomonosis in dromedary bulls
Journal of Camel Practice and Research, 2020During a routine health check of 12 breeding dromedary bulls using microscopy two of them were found to harbour trichomonad flagellates in their preputial washings. A PCR conducted on one of the samples did confirm trichomonads but not Tritrichomonas foetus. DNA sequencing identified the organism as Tetratrichomonas species.

Vertebral Osteoma in a Dromedary Camel
Journal of Veterinary Medicine Series A, 2006SummaryA case of vertebral osteoma observed in a female 4‐year‐old dromedary camel is presented. The patient showed a progressive ataxia, incoordination and finally a permanent recumbence position. Treatment was unfruitful and the animal was humanely euthanized.
