Rogue Drone Detection

open access: yes, 2023
Rogue drones have become a significant concern in recent years due to their potential to cause harm to people and property and disrupt critical infrastructure and public safety. As a result, there has been a growing need for effective methods to detect and mitigate the risks posed by these drones.

Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.

Collision Detection and Recovery Control of Drones Using Onboard Inertial Measurement Unit

open access: yesDrones
This paper presents a strategy for collision detection and recovery control of drones using an onboard Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). The collision detection algorithm compares the expected response of the drone with the measurements from the IMU to ...

Solution‐Processed Mn‐Doped 2d Perovskite Wavelength Shifters for Noble‐Liquid Photon Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Solution‐processed Mn2+‐doped PEA2PbBr4 two‐dimensional perovskite films are demonstrated as large‐area wavelength shifters for noble‐liquid photon detectors. Mn2+ incorporation introduces a broad emission band at ∼620 nm with a large Stokes shift, suppressing self‐absorption and matching SiPM sensitivity.

2D Co‐Assembly of Solid Acids Enables Stable Superprotonic Conduction Above 260°C

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐dimensional co‐assembly strategy integrates antimony phosphate and phosphotungstic acid nanosheets into free‐standing inorganic lamellar membranes with confined acid–acid interfaces. The resulting interfacial hydrogen‐bond network enables anhydrous proton conductivity exceeding 0.1 S cm−1 at 260°C and supports stable high‐temperature fuel‐cell ...

The Effect of Light Intensity, Camera Pixel Quality, Camera Distance, and Object Altitude on Detection Accuracy in a Real-Time Drone Surveillance System Using YOLOv5

open access: yesJournal of Innovation Information Technology and Application
This research evaluates the performance of the drone detection system based on YOLOv5 in a variety of environmental conditions. The four main variables under test were drone height, camera type, light intensity, and camera-to-object distance.

Balancing Hydrophobicity and Hydrophilicity: Dual Filler‐Engineered Proton Exchange Membranes for Durable, High‐Power Fuel Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polarity‐matched Zr–MOFs program Nafion's nanoscale morphology during solution casting. Hydrophilic UiO‐66 preserves hydrated pathways, while hydrophobic UiO‐67 increases the proton hopping sites by densifying ionic clusters. Combining both fillers yields a membrane that delivers 176 mS cm−1 conductivity, reaches 1.46 W cm−2 under 200 kPa, and triples ...

Acoustic Drone Package Delivery Detection

open access: yesCoRR
In recent years, the illicit use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for deliveries in restricted area such as prisons became a significant security challenge. While numerous studies have focused on UAV detection or localization, little attention has been given to delivery events identification.

Biphasic Co‐Delivery of Curcumin and 5‐FU using 3D‐Printed Dissolving Microneedles for Skin Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Using pixel‐aware digital light processing, the authors created high‐resolution, dissolvable microneedles from a PEGDA/VP matrix. These microneedles encapsulate curcumin and 5‐fluorouracil and dissolve in the skin, co‐delivering drugs directly to tumours.
