Emulsification by ultrasound: drop size distribution and stability
The aim of this work is to compare the oil-in-water emulsions produced by mechanical agitation (Ultra-Turrax, 10,000 rpm, P = 170 W) or power ultrasound (ultrasound horn, 20 kHz, 130 W) using the same model system: water/kerosene/polyethoxylated (20 EO) sorbitan monostearate.

Distribution of Sizes among Rain-drops [PDF]
COL. GOLD's article in NATURE of April 30, p. 654, has prompted us to communicate the results of some observations which we have made of the size of raindrops. The work has had to be discontinued for the moment, but possibly the results, incomplete as they are, may be useful to other workers in this field.

Experiments on stabilized agitated dispersion of non-reacting styrene monomers were conducted at various dispersed phase hold-up fractions, impeller geometries, impeller speeds and agitation times. The experimental drop size distributions obtained were described best by the cumulative upper limit volume, upper limit number and the Nukiyama-Tanasawa ...

Drop Size Distribution in Agitated Contactor: A Review
The breakage rate of liquid drops in the dispersed phase is a key way to improve the heat and mass transfer between the continuous/dispersed phases. This work includes a review of experimental results of liquid drop breakage in an agitated tank.

What Determines the Drop Size in Sprays?
In many instances, sprays are formed from the breakup of liquid jets or sheets. We investigate the different parameters that determine the characteristic drop size in the breakup of sheets.

Development of Drop Size Distribution Model for Dropwise Condensation on a Superhydrophobic Surface
This study presents a mathematical model of drop size distribution during dropwise condensation on a superhydrophobic surface. The model is developed by combining a power law growth model, an exponentially decaying population model, and a Gaussian ...
